    Whistles at train stations

It was during train despatch. I heard the familiar whistle sounds (which I don’t understand, but am familiar with) but then a slightly different uncoordinated tone pricked my ears up and when I looked over there was a strangely dressed person who was obviously not a member of staff jumping...

    Whistles at train stations

At Reading station this afternoon, I noticed somebody on the platform with a whistle, mimicking one of the train dispatchers. Copying their use of the whistle and randomly whistling. This strikes me as being quite a dangerous thing to do. Is there any byelaw that this would be caught under...

Same thing you do if you lose anything else, passport, driving license, blue badge.

    Virgin heavy handed but right....

I'm entirely on Virgin's side with this. We now live in a society where coming close to questioning somebody's disability can start talks about human rights breaches (hyperbole, I know). So to protect those who are actualy disabled, there needs to be formal documentation to show who is...

Am I Missing Something? LM/Midland Metro Ticket

I went to the ticket office at Rowley Regis a few days ago to buy tickets for a very short journey which was Rowley Regis to Trinity Way on the Midland Metro, changing at The Hawthorns. I asked what the cheapest single fare would be and the ticket office guy told me there was a "through...

Delays in the Slough area (morning of 09/07)

Just pop to the ticket windows at Marylebone, they'll endorse your ticket for the next service. No drama. The exact same thing has happened to me a few times when arriving late into MYB thanks to GWR delays coming into Paddington from Hayes and Harlington.

Court Case for unpaid Penalty Fare

"Unfair" isn't a practically helpful argument in all of this so best to let that slide and focus on being pragmatic about the situation.

Trivia: Place names that you're not sure how to pronounce

I once had a friend who pronounced the 'g' in Rowley Regis as a hard consonant. Rowley Ree-giz Idiot.
