    Bristol Airport access

The WestLink was only £2 each from Clevedon - with 2 of us on it, its a very large private shuttle (that only operates until 7pm, sadly) Sadly, I can't see there being a dedicated (light) rail link from Yatton or N+B, in spite of it being 'only' 5km or so from the airport.

Is there demand for more sleeper services?

This has nicely covered something I was going to ask, but I was too cautious to dip my size 10 into this thorny subject of UK wide sleepers. I like the idea - ok, romance - of a sleeper service to the Alps, and this would surely be a suitable / potential market to tap into for winter sports...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

As a local, I agree about the Midland Way extension. However, it would require the headshunt to be relaid (again) as it is currently laid level (understandably), whereas the original trackbed was on a downwards gradient towards the tunnel under the A38. If you look now, you can see that the...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

I noticed in the run up to Christmas that they finally got around to relaying the old headshunt from the quarry all the way up to the A38 bridge. It was quite a nice surprise to be driving back to Thornbury and see some heavy plant doing some work in the cutting. I'll see if I can get a picture...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

Great pictures. I assume the trackbed has been built up over the years as, having also had a nosey over the A38 bridge parapet today, the rails are only just below the level of the carriageway. Unless they do a lot of digging out as well, I can't see the rails returning to Thornbury any time...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

No doubt the line is still 'in use', but when I looked from the overbridge next to the quarry a few months back, there was a wooden sleeper across the rails acting as a stop, before the line disappeared off into the undergrowth. I do understand that the rails continue to a set of buffers just by...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

I'd be gobsmacked if striking it endangers trains, unless NR have been really busy and cleared the cutting. I guess they're just getting ready for when the line is back open to Thornbury - in about 30 years time, going by the pace of 'progress' around rail improvements in the greater...

Just to be clear: which reopenings are the most viable?

Based on the number of houses that keep being planned for Thornbury and the fringes, I would think there should be tariffs on the new houses to help pay for the reinstatement of the rail link and be a big part of the planning consents. With the fact that the line stops at the A38, its not a...

Name 5 reopenings that you support the most

and will never open again..........

Name 5 reopenings that you support the most

I like your thinking :D With the currently proposed 2500 houses to be thrown in at Thornbury, we'll need something to get people away from the town - the A38 certainly isn't going to do it  Its a shame the trackbed from the Westerleigh oil terminal to BTM is now the ring road, as with...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

Ta. Perhaps, but I feel there might be just a hint of opposition to it. :D Besides, its not like we shouldn't all be walking / cycling more anyway. Probably the most 'out there' thinking would be for the line to go the other way around the town, and carry on to the power station at...

Tytherington Quarry; freight line to reopen?

There is the small matter of 'Armstrong Way' being on the trackbed (it used to be part of my garden), and you would also need a crossing of the ring road - although that might slow down some of the vehicles that use it as a race track. Also, a new bridge would be needed over the link road from...
