Interesting post from TfW on X stating that on Sunday 3 May, the half-hourly rail service between Pontypridd and Cardiff Bay will be reduced due to battery operation testing. It doesn’t go into any detail as to what the scale of the service reduction will be!

TfW have now officially announced that Ty Glas station will reopen next Saturday (4th April) .

Local Cardiff City Councillors have been told by TfW that Ty Glas station will reopen in early April with the exact date to confirmed next week. A quick look on TfW's website shows that tickets from Ty Glas are available for purchase from Saturday April 4th and stops at Ty Glas are also shown...

Maybe the overhead power has been switched off because of the work taking place on the Rhymney Valley line. I caught a 756 on Monday evening and noticed when I got off the train at Birchgrove that the "pan" was down. Perhaps operating all day on batteries isn't reliable enough and TfW have...

The first photograph shows the arrangements before the recent work took place. Passengers walked down the ramp, opened the gate and then turned right onto the crossing. Now there is additional fencing and a "dog-leg" in the path that means you are facing the crossing before you open the gate...

TfW have recently advised local councillors that the foot crossing at Ty Glas will reopen on Friday 24th October 2025. The reopening of Ty Glas station is now planned to be in April 2026.

In fairness to TfW they did say it would take until the end of September for this to happen. Lets hope it continues next week!

A number of services have turned around at Birchgrove since Ty Glas closed. Yesterday, I was on a service that terminated at Heath Low Level and then sat there for around 7 minutes before setting off to Penarth. Just noticed that this morning a service has been turned at Rhiwbina!

Local councillors have been advised by TfW that work has started on the foot-crossing at Ty Glas and it is now due to reopen again at end of September. This follows complaints that it hadn't reopened at the beginning of the new school year. There are no Coryton services for the next two weekends...

I believe that crossing is still open. 1755767481 A JCB was working on the path on the North side of Ty Glas station yesterday. TfW have recently announced that the Coryton Branch will be closed on two Saturdays in September (6th and 13th). There are of course no Sunday services on this line so...

Still no indication of any work taking place on the foot crossing and platform extension at Ty Glas station. It had been suggested by local politicians that the foot crossing would reopen in time for the new school year in September...that seems very unlikely!
