Doesn't stop them from being loud in other ways. Mk3s are horrible for rattling and screeching at even low speeds. Just because you cant hear the engines much doesn't make them quiet. In fact, most underfloor engines make less noise than the rubber gangways on Mk3s rubbing against eachother.
Same thing with the Javelins. Sit in the middle 4 cars, which are all powered, and it’s nigh on deafening, the outer 2 are the only ones where a group may be able to hold a conversation at a civil volume. It’s not like it’s a nice sound either. If Electrostars were that loud, it wouldn’t be...
I find the Electrostar family to be VERY quiet both inside and out. The way the motors are done also goes some way to evening out the distribution of the noise throughout the train, which may or may not help, I don't really know. For one, I really like the Electrostar's sound, and always sit...
Bad wording on my part, basically, would you bring back and lines/stations axed by beeching, and how far would you go (how many of the stations/how much of the line(s) or branches)
Simple. Take a leaf out of Japan's commuter networks and put stations served only by the stoppers on loops, with the timetable allowing for an intercity to pass while the stopper is stopped.
The question here is a relatively simple one. Which section(s) of which line(s) would you restore to the state they were in prior to the Beeching Axe, provided they were actually affected by it?
The line you choose has to have survived the axe, but you can restore any branch lines that fell...
This is an interesting idea to ponder on if I do say so myself. With the NCL, I wouldn't want to have its extension be popping out anywhere near Blackfriars, London Bridge, Elephant and Castle or Loughborough Junction, it should, ideally pop out going the other way, to not directly compete with...
They aren't poor at all. They currently use 2 car 170s (sometimes a 156 sneaks on) and the 0816 from Stowmarket (dk its Ipswich time) is always rammed, the only times I've had a seat were the couple of times I was in FC, the same (albeit slightly less so) is true for the returns, in my experience.
5/10 seems a bit generous. I’ve used pendolinos a couple of times from MKC to Euston (35mins) and both times I’ve been so glad to get off you have NO IDEA. I think that the Pendo seats look better than they actually are, not had any problems with legroom though, it’s in the sweet spot for me...
I was wondering if anyone had any intel regarding roughly what formation would go on what services. My thinking would say that 4 Cars should go on Ipswich-Peterboroughs as they only run 1tp2h and are absolutely rammed with their 2 Car 170s.
