I don't know if he actually was, but the person checking the reference numbers did appear to be cross-checking it with his list - which should stop abuse. They never seem to on the Greyhound on the other hand! They just glance at the number and if it seems realistic let you through.

You don't actually need to print it off either. I just made a note of the reference number on my phone and showed that to the person at the barrier. Lots of people in front of me seemed to be doing the same as well.
