Rather then community service being carried out in Wick (or Thurso), the service could be done in Helmsdale, as the 2nd train of the day gets there before 10:00! ;)

It's a fair point, I live by Hanborough station and there is one to the north for southbound trains, which means it happens roughly every hour from about 06:00 to midnight. I rarely notice it.
