Might just be my TOC but TPWS (any), AWS, wrong route, station missed or overrun doesn’t result in a med screen unless on call manager requests it. Which in my 5 years at this particular TOC they haven’t.
SPADs always result in med screen.
I’ve always found it strange as like people are...
If anything I think it works a treat, I know what I’m off for years to come, don’t have to worry about maybe getting it off or missing out and can plan/swap/book accordingly with plenty of notice….years
There’s plenty of people at my depot without kids/older kids so getting school holidays is...
Yes the railway is a very reactive industry, something will happen and they will then change the rules/regs so that incident/accident never happens again. Sometimes makes you roll your eyes but that’s the way it is.
There will be good and bad drivers what ever the recruiting process is.
Do I agree with 18 year olds driving, I wasn’t ready at 18 but many are, so it’s a hard to gauge.
I think it’s all money motivated. Younger longer apprenticeships mean lower wages in the earlier years (even more than...
Myself with young children. Floating/flexi weeks (so not knowing what days I’m working untill the sheets come out week before), annual leave days only being 100% granted the week before and the 12 hour movement off spare are all big negatives. But as they say horses for courses and it may suit...
At ours. If your booked to work Xmas day and Boxing Day you get them off, if your already off them days you get 2 extra leave days. Think every where is different so speak to union or line manager at your place of work :)

Not driving at Nottingham or derby though, be Lincoln, Boston or Norwich.

I worked nottingham and the shifts weren’t that bad no where near as many night shifts as derby. But even though it’s only a stepping stone for a year or 2 you’ve done right thing if you couldn’t do the shifts...
This I can confirm as 100% correct. They have to use the depot drivers up first, if there isn’t enough (like what’s just happened at Lincoln and Boston) they advertise for external qualified drivers and for internals. This is the way for EMR, in the midlands anyhow don’t know how it works for st...
Haven’t LNER promised guards will be safety critical (close the doors at least) for the life span of the azuma? I’m not saying they won’t change that though :)
I agree with most of the above. I feel that with us train drivers and guards there is a lot of negativity but when you dig deeper it’s 9/10 because they couldn’t get the job or failed the OPC tests.
People don’t understand the job or are just jealous. The whole comparing to bus drivers is...
