You’re better relying on your own phone network these days. While these could be poor/non existent in the most rural areas it will work better than what’s offered across both bus and rail networks these days.
The Geminis interior still look modern vehicles. My opinion they look better to any of the post 2012 stock.
However there at end of there lifespan just about and still being used the entire day.
Still a number of them good machines and will be liked by drivers.
The native 54 plates did have...
All to do with the lightweight materials used both body and chassis. Even the heavier chassis BYD/E200s are shocking for rattles and that’s with decent suspension. While the E400MMCs are better they can rattle and more so the thinner glass in them also make noise due to movement when hitting...
The drivers cab in MAN and Scania E300s was bigger. Drivers seat for a start could go back more which isn’t the case on Firsts E300 with no space to recline. Geminis will be missed due to them being last buses left where handbrake doesn’t need applied for door opening. Time saved driving these.
The Geminis that Glasgow had with air con all worked fine (occasionally you would have units blowing hot air which got dealt with). Along with the E500s they had somebody maintain these. Cab air con was also in these buses. However they started moving these Geminis to other depots where the air...
The 61 did become mainly B7TLs once the Simplicity network started. In 2018 it did get refurbished B9TLs. Once the new E400EVs entered service it has its main allocation as EVs with some E400 MMCs on all day boards. Nearly all the ex Parkhead routes appear to EV workings.
After the 2012 Olympics Parkhead was to get new E400s along with Tridents.. The E400s were to be for the 61 service and a change in management changed for that order to go south and Glasgow to receive new E300s instead.
Earlier B7TLs from 99/2000 up until 2005 had nice suspension. The 2006/07 models had different setup. Some setup’s could make them feel a lot more harsh. The B9TLs I’m sure changes to suspension again (correct me if wrong). Most were fine.
Also the only buses left that don’t have active door interlocks. So it’s also the end of old style driving where you could open doors without handbrake on and get away from a stop without delay. The lowheight Enviro 400s were also this way but software activated door interlocks around 2013/14...
The 21 now appears to be all E400MMCs. The 18 still seeing the odd B9 but not so many left at all across fleet.

Any big repairs and long waits for parts will see any B9 go off fleet and to scrap. 37272,73 are best of these at Blantyre.
Is there no improvement then with the build quality then with the Demo (38600)? Yet to travel on that. But going by BYD E400s they are poor. This is what happens when you build using lightweight materials.
