Skegness by EMR this Summer, 2 car 158s today, must be cozy

There's a significant trade on passengers from Scotland and London to Skegness. I'd say it's almost a 50/50 split between Grantham and Nottingham for holidaymakers.

Missold an unneeded single? Split ticketing Brighton mainline

Some retailers also seem to sell a Manchester Oxford Road (MCO) to Manchester Piccadilly (MAN) single for folks who have AP tickets to Oxford Road. I can't tell the difference from what is presented digitally if it's valid to MAN or MCO so see no reason why the additional ticket has been sold, I...

Skegness by EMR this Summer, 2 car 158s today, must be cozy

Sadly unless you own the stock it'll always come down to the bottom line. Ultimately we're probably better investing in the routes that make money and cascading the older stock to routes like Skegness, as opposed to investing in Skegness itself. Generally if you can provide a clean train that'll...

Where would you suggest the additional vehicles come from for a 3 month period each year?

GWR two passengers left behind at Paddington

A very sensible and considered comment and one I fully agree with. There's absolutely nothing to see in the video unless you want to see something.

GWR two passengers left behind at Paddington

Why be bothered? It happens all the time.

GWR two passengers left behind at Paddington

They weren't there on time, and the guard hadn't seen them until he had ushered on the last few infront of him, only when he turns around immediately before boarding and closing his local door does he see them.

    EMR Regional and Connect refurbishments

There's an excess of units above and beyond what is required, hence it going.

    Heat Related Disruption - 13 Aug 2026

Not anymore. Rail replacement that is preplanned no longer has a derogation from the Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR). If the rail replacement stops within 15 miles, it must have automatic announcements and display screens showing the next stop. There's a very small...

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

158 and 170s are maintained by EMR staff in the South Shed, the North shed is Hitachi staff who look after the 222 and 810 fleet. They are generally kept very separate from my experience with only the wheel lathe being used by all (and external companies too).

    TfW 158s air conditioning problems

One thing that may also be worth investigating is when the last time the condenser coils were cleaned. There's a suggestion that they've never been done at EMR and one unit has recently had them done as a test to see if it improves the efficacy and reliability of the cooling.

Stopgap options to cover for delays to introduction of Class 810 for EMR?

I don't think anybody is able to cite a source at present. There's something coming, it isn't confirmed what it is yet, but it can't really be anything other than 221s or 180s.

EMR - MD Will Rogers leaves immediately

If you think about it, there are 52 vehicles above what should've been maintained on depots as all 26 158s have been kept for the Liverpool route. Trains don't run to Cleethorpes hourly, Doncaster is still only 5 trains a day, there is only 1 train per hour on the RHL, so against the original...
