With the DLR to Thamesmead, knowing the TfL is considering further spurs south to Abbey Wood and north to Barking is good.
But I don’t know about everything east of that point. I’m wondering if a new line north-south from Romford down to Belvedere, and maybe linking with Greenwich could be...
Unless HS1 opens a station at Dagenham or Rainham, not particularly.
A lot of inner east London (Newham) has great connections.
But once you get to parts of Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Thurrock, etc. the connections are mostly radial with lackluster interconnectivity between...
I believe that would be the Ken-Ex Tramlink proposals.
I’m not entirely confident in trams being the way to go, but perhaps heavy rail might be more preferred overall.
I could see a Fenchurch St - Gravesend service via Rainham (London) & Grays, as well as a Southend Central - Gravesend link...
So, while this idea isn’t necessarily in London, it’s just outside of it, and I wonder if there would be any benefits to it…
Extending the c2c’s Rainham branch from Grays to Gravesend via a rail tunnel under the Thames.
After some deliberation, I do have a few ideas for an expanded Underground network.
Victoria line extension beyond Brixton:
Brixton (Southeastern)
Ruskin Park
North Dulwich (Southern)
Dulwich Village
Dulwich Common
Upper Sydenham
Crystal Palace (Windrush, Southern)
Birkbeck (Trams)
Beckenham...
So, should the Northern City line be transferred to London Overground operation by TfL… here’s a question.
In the long term, once Crossrail 2 is built, would it make sense to transfer the Welwyn Garden City branch from Overground to Crossrail 2 operation?
Or is New Southgate going to be the...
So, looking at the possible split of the Northern line, I suppose the absolute most the Battersea branch could be extended post-Crossrail 2 is something like this:
Battersea Power Station
Battersea Bridge
Clapham Junction (Mildmay, Windrush, Southern, Southwestern)
Wandsworth South
Southfields...
I can see a c2c extension to Gravesend from Grays via Purfleet being a good choice.
It might give more attention to the branch through Dagenham, Rainham, and Purfleet.
I’m going to make a swing at a Victoria line extension in the southeast, in a post-Crossrail 2 world, with a takeover of the Southern line to Beckenham.
Brixton (Southeastern)
Loughborough Park
for Loughborough Junction (Thameslink)
Ruskin Park
North Dulwich (Southern)
Dulwich Common
Upper...
On both ends, it could.
A southern extension to Sutton / Croydon or an eastern extension to Hainault / Romford aren’t out of the realm of possibility in a post-Crossrail 2 world.
Beam Park does have benefits to the local area around it.
There are also murmurs of the 165/365 getting their termini swapped and to directly serve the station eventually.
Looking at the possible Barking spur, I’d be a bit curious if the extension was just to Barking and nothing more.
I could see the stations go:
East Beckton
Roding Riverside
Barking
I can see the new stations + Beckton Riverside get placed into Zone 3 / 4.
It is a common proposal to have the Victoria line take over the Central line to Hainault via Leytonstone.
It could have some uses beyond that, if it wasn’t just fields and forest.
I think it’s fair to say that while Newham and Greenwich have been getting a lot of connectivity recently, it’s disappointing to see the likes of Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, and Bexley get…not as much attention, besides Barking Riverside and the Elizabeth Line.
That begs the...
