Both 701501/502 are currently complete enough to run as 5 car trains on the Derby Litchurch Lane test track.
Both have been viewed running singly and coupled on the test track.
I last viewed 501, running on the test track, on 24th. June.
Whether or not they are completely fitted out internally...
I agree that currently 9 Class 701/5's are present at Derby but my records do not show 701504 as being present but do show 701510 as being the last to arrive on 27/07/26.
Incidentally my first Class 701/5 sighting was over 6 years ago, on 02/07/20, when I viewed 701502 at Melton Mowbray station...
I suspect that they already know which unit requires the use of barriers.
Given that the path from Bicester to Wimbledon is 5Q87 and the return is 0H71 suggests to me that barriers are not required for tomorrows scheduled move so only a single loco will be required.

Not quite as were it not for the tree branch issue with 93001 then 701510 would be back at Derby Litchurch Lane.
Yes, I agree it is currently still present on SWR turf but hardly 'Being prepared for service'
The London route avoids a run around at Oxford where things could possibly go wrong.
At Derby there is no run around as they simply reverse the train from the station into the Litchurch Lane Works.
It may be that the train is also reversed from the Bicester MOD site to the main line, just south...
