TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Someone on Facebook has nicknamed them Gliders. What do we think?

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

To put in the passing loop at Rhiwbina would need a second platform. Access to it would need a lift or ramps, adding costs. However if the lines is run in tram mode using line of sight, then borrow crossings are allowed. Likewise north of Coryton to Velindre and possibly Asda at Coryton would be...

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I am planning to head for Taffs Well for one of the planned runs and will post photos if it does happen then. TfW must be confident of it happening if the paths are in.

I know the toilet situation has been done to death but please remember people have adapted in other places and will on these lines. At least there will be toilets, try finding a toilet at the average tube station!

What is happening with the Royal Mail 325s left at PRDC?

There is a Facebook post here which shows one of the units at Carlisle. The comments are questioning their future as well. If this is not allowed please delete. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1BWhB3Up4d/

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

If you go to Real Time trains and use the detail view you can see if the service is running. I use Railcam to do the same, but that is a subscription service. Can't see anything booked on the Ebbw line today

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

I believe, and could be wrong, that is sitting in kit form, by the Travel Lodge opposite just off Hemingway Road. Of course that is all blocked off now for Arena works.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

No. Paving and stone sets going in at the moment and then the entrance needs to be built. No idea how much longer.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

Just posting what was said. There is a lot of negativity about these units so it was interesting to hear what staff actually think about them.

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

The unit testing done there this afternoon was operated on batteries. I took some video of it and popped it onto YouTube, showing the unit entering and exiting the station.

TfW class 398 Stadler Citylink tram trains

I nipped down this afternoon and took some video of the unit entering and exiting Cardiff Bay station. Spoke to one of the crew and he said they had a few technical issues with multiple running but they are the best train they have by a long way. BTW the trains were filled with bags of ballast...

New Open Access Application: London - Southampton - Marchwood

I wonder, coming back to the article above, which 769's they are preparing. Possibly the GWR ones? https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2026/04/trains-ready-for-testing-if-new-marchwood-and-southampton-to-london-service-is-approved.html

Should Vale of Glamorgan (VOG) services continue to destinations other than Rhymney?

I remember talk of the Cross Country Birmingham/ Nottingham services being extended to Rhoose to serve the airport. Not sure how they would have turned back.

Could TfW have a 'Thunderbird' loco on standby for unit failures?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/tfw-class-398-stadler-citylink-tram-trains.229459/ Coming back to the 398's failing and needing moving there are any number of locos out there right now that are sitting idle. Surely getting something in as a 'Thunderbird' would be...
