    Article referred to is in today's Sunday Times. The route described is Arup's preferred route. It follows the Chiltern line to Bicester then the M40 north from there.

    As far as I remember the Arup proposal is for trains travelling at 320kph not 400kph but not all of them stop in West London (at Crossrail interchange). I think that is where they make up the time?

    CliveHiggins. Thank you for the well written posts. I agree with those who have said HS2 should be about capacity not speed. If HS2 ran slightly slower (300kph not 400kph) the route could curve, allowing it to avoid sensitive areas of landscape and villages. Trains would require less power...
