    When i worked at Bournemourh in the 70s i was asked to make an announcement that the Poole-York service would be delayed, awaiting a replacement loco.     In the 1970 as a youngster on BR i was told by an area inspector that the trainloads of CWR coming out of Eastleigh were 600 ft long and after laying in would be thermit welded together 6 lengths at a time, (3600ft) only the extreme ends having expansion switches.

    Vis a vis the mysterious yellow "cable", It is quite common for the civil police traffic cops to use these heavy duty straps to imobilise a vehicle while they investigate, also to prevent unauthorised removal of said vehicle !:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Definitely Bournemouth Central, I used to work there! And i can confirm the large building was indeed the P.O. sorting office ( with the BRSA club to the left of it !), and it was Kenedys builders merchants behind it with the yellow sign.

    There were barrow boys in Minehead too, transporting passengers luggage from the station to Butlins, over half a mile away !

    Another fatality sadly, a person trying o save a dog near Blue Anchor on the WSR about 20 years ago :(.
