I don’t know why the Leeds – Lancaster - Morecambe couldn’t run via Morecambe first and then terminate at Lancaster. That way, it is only entering Lancaster once as opposed to twice as is the case at present.
I would also be inclined to reopen platforms on the up and down main at Carnforth and...
I just don't get this need for loco hauled stock. If a 68 fails, that's it, it's a fail. If 1 engine on an 802 fails, there are 2 still working that can at least get the train to the next station at the very worst.
The odd one a day working Windermere - Lancaster - Leeds would not go amiss IMHO. Again, a 769 could do it being under the wires from Oxenholme to Lancaster and Skipton to Leeds. Opens up more tourist links.
..which is why Kirkstall Forge surely needs better than a half hourly service. Some of the peak time Ilkley's should call there once the 2 x 3 car 331's get up and running. Car park needs extending too.
I am not rightly fussed as long as they turn up, get you there, and you can get a seat. If they do order any more, they really should be built with corridor connections given that so many are working as 4-car sets.
