I'd assume the 2 is related to the grade or difficulty of the signalbox in question. They go from grade 1 (level crossings) up to grade 9 (busy places like Manc Piccadily, etc).

I find it quite comical really, I took the tests and was told I had the highest scores they'd seen for a long time, already hold a job on the railway so the whole working to rules+regs, comms, etc in the interview went down extremely well yet I never got a look in after that. Just holding out...

If you want a safe job in a SB which is never gonna close then you want to get in at Peak Forest Sth, Great Rocks or possibly Buxton. They have been given closing dates for about 10-11 years time but, certainly Peak and Rocks, it's highly doubtful that it will happen.
