We were told the governor was set at exactly 128mph. In the late 70s, hitting 140+ down Stoke happened on more than a few occasions. I assume it was the same on the Western with them having one less on. Got 112mph out of Paddy as well.
I was under the impression that Leicester was similar to parts of the Trans Pennine scheme in that they wanted to do the signalling and other infrastructure work at the same time as electrification to avoid rework. Does this mean that reinstating all the lines into Leicester, grade seperation...
Lytham St Anne's is the postal address as they share a sorting office (in St Anne's). Very friendly with lots of nice places to eat and drink. Just a shame that the train service is so infrequent.
Cheesington South was built where it was to support an onwards connection to Leatherhead which never happened. It got moved north in order to get rid of a level crossing.
I know of a few rural services on single lines with tight margins where it could be useful too if you need to get to a crossing point on time. Even worse is an urban service on a single line such as the Blackpool South branch.
Big things were planned for Bedford including new platforms to allow more trains to be turned around. However, it is on indefinite hiatus due to matters such as where to put the platforms for East-West Rail, alledged arguments between Network Rail and the council over who pays for public realm...
The tripcocks were removed when the line transferred to BR. The lightweight bogies used by some modern units do not even have the space to fit the equipment. I am told that ones of the reasons the Desiro City uses a mixture of disc and tread brakes is for this reason.
