HS2. Newcastle to London in 2 hours 18 minutes !
I seem to remember the Tyne Tees Pullman on the 27/09/1987 using diesel power did 2 hours 19 minutes.
50 years of progress and billions of pounds of tax payers money for 1 minute !!!
1 unit is to be refreshed each week at Heaton,142019 was the trial unit,142087 was next, this took longer than planned as was the first done on the depot.
142065 has now been done while 142090 is currently on refresh but also requires new wheelsets.
When the old floor Lino is lifted any rotten...
084 and 123 have to take a rake of coaches to Kilmarnock within the next week, before heading south back to back to Brush. So the most likely farewell could be to allow punters to travel with the set up to kilmarnock !
43123 has had a B exam and will swap back onto the set with a MTU powercar tonight.
43084 had its B4 piston renewed today, had been waiting for parts.should be available soon.
I also understand both powercars will be named prior to working last valenta powered train.
Crofton Depot are not geared up for HST sets, dont think shed is long enough either. 2 GC 180 sets are serviced here each night but return to Heaton for B and C exams

On Monday 20/12/2010 the last remaining un-refurbed coaches will go to Kilmarnock just like the previous 2 sets did,the powercars are then detached and go back to back to Brush. it makes sense to use this oppertunity to run a farewell special.
It is my understanding that on Sat 18/12/2010 a special valenta powered train,43084 and 43123 will work sunderland-kx,kx-bradford,bradford-kx,kx-sunderland. Then on the Monday 20/12/2010 work Sunderland to Kilmarnock special to take last set up for refurb, the powercars then go to Brush for...
A well worn engine (high mileage) will consume a lot more oil, for example the last Paxman valenta engines in service required approx 20 gallons of oil each depot visit, which was every 2 nights !
class 142 and 156 units have the oil and filters renewed every B exam which is 21000 miles or about 6-8 weeks.
Engines like the Paxman Valenta got oil samples taken every 3 days,Grand Central take every 2 days and the results will determine if an oil change is required or if internal engine...
