Ah, apologies. The road leading up to the bridge over the station is also called Winterstoke Road, so I assumed it was that one being replaced!

NR are paying £5.5M for new lifts at Weston to make the station accessible. All well and good, but if the Winterstoke Road Bridge is replaced I wonder if they could have integrated lifts or ramps between the platforms into the new road bridge and saved themselves a fair bit of cash...

A real shame about the new houses on the right with their modern details, close-boarded fences, and backs to the line. A real missed opportunity to create a development that fronted the railway in a positive manner with traditionally-styled new houses. The whole line should be linear...

I know that HE did look at Swanage Station and ruled it out, probably for the reasons I gave. It's in a Conservation Area, and that probably gives it an appropriate level of protection against inappropriate development proposals.

Swanage Station is quite altered, the canopy is post-war and the interior is probably of the same era. Whereas the engine shed is relatively unaltered.

If we're playing fantasy preserved railway extensions I'd turn an extended ESR North rather than South at Shepton Mallet, and link up with the Somerset and Dorset operation at Chilcompton!
