    The driver would have been expecting a green like he would have got every other time he traversed that crossover Hence he moved over the crossover and then acclerated like he did every other time. He was "in automatic mode"

    Why would you need a "second pair of eyes" in the driver's cab for? There's only so much area that's going to be important - and it's directly in front of you. It's not like an aircraft where a threat could come from any dimension.
