Hello everyone, I'm a PhD student at Edinburgh Napier University studying how post-pandemic phenomena such as teleworking may have reshaped how people think about where to live in the long-term after the pandemic. Currently, I am looking for volunteers based in Scotland to participate in a...
Fairly busy in one unit, empty in the other, all because they forgot to announce another train was gonna couple to that one. At least we all got seats still. I'm now on the 15:22 back from Carlisle, which departed on time for once (passed Ribblehead a few minutes ago). This is moderately busy...
I'm on that train, just 15 minutes left to Carlisle.

Yeah, that's formed with the train I'm currently on, it will be arriving into Carlisle in 10 mins.
On the plus side, we still got free seats but separate airline seats, although no table seat which would've been ideal for the family. We're trundling along past Settle, my 2-year-old son is very engrossed with the views.
Occupied, so the signals put us at Platform 4. It is, it came short formed and everyone rammed into there, no announcements that another unit coupled later to give people a chance to get to the other unit to spread out. One or two went, but most couldn't be bothered to move.
Our 0807 departure was cancelled after getting to Blackburn then turning back to Preston (Blackburn platforms too short for a set swap, of course), all because the horn didn't bloody work  we'll be there on time for the 1007 departure!
Booked a trip tomorrow from Preston to Carlisle on the diverted trains (the wife and kids will tag along cos why not); this will be my first time riding on Settle Carlisle and also, my first time on an Avanti Evero. Advance singles bought today (day before travel) at around £8pp each way w/...
Double-sets are overkill on this shuttle anyway, given they're almost empty; saw two services pass my local this morning (around 10:25 at CYT, so the morning Crewe to Carlisle and Carlisle to Wigan) and didn't see much people onboard.
Passenger numbers would be better if it also stopped at Blackburn, Clitheroe and a few stations along Settle-Carlisle, but I appreciate Avanti don't have anything to do with these stations anyway so it would be pointless unless it became a regular service.
I've seen a 10 car pass my local station (Cherry Tree near Blackburn) almost empty (people with a whole carriage to themselves) on the 14:21 from Carlisle to Wigan.
Australia [named after the adjacent pub]
Porthmadog, Gwynedd
Buses bound for Porthmadog terminating there used to show up on bus stop displays (which haven't worked for well over a decade now) as 'Australia' so I had to look twice and think to myself "that's a bit far to go on a bus", then...
Unfortunately, this is where the problem lies. The install base for BVE was mostly people who couldn't afford MSTS back in the day or, in the later times, a computer than can run one of the newer sims. This was already a niche back then, let alone in this day and age. Nowadays, most of us have...
In Switzerland and (to a lesser extent) Germany, they use the term 'InterRegional' (IR) to describe something in-between a Regional (RB/RE) and InterCity (IC) train, or simply a long-distance service with more stops. Perhaps this term is more fitting for such services. All these routes (Cardiff...
