    I wouldn't want to try it regardless, but is this due to not being allowed to break one's journey if using the direct train rule or another restriction?

    I know my father did this from Aylesbury at least some of the time. From Aylesbury, I'd definitely say people would use Milton Keynes to go north, but Rugby is absolutely miles away, it would take well over an hour to get there!
