Have you ever tried a 142? You have an option of "sweltering" or "ridiculously hot". My vote goes for a degree or two below what "most" people find comfortable. Those who like it a little comfier will be fine, the others can bring a jumper or move around a little.

The Northern 156s are nicely done up, but they had the advantage of not being crap to start with. 142s, even with comfy seats, will still be noisy and bouncy, screech round corners and a bloody uncomfortable ride. Replace any 142 with a 156/158 and watch customer satisfaction on that line soar...
