Quite a few of the timetables for the mid 90s to mid 00’s for this line and other are on https://history.networkrail.co.uk/uncategorized/SO_506bb63b-dadf-497e-901d-1673556bcffd/. Just look for timetable books with the YD code.
Apparently it stems from an answer given in a Northern Stakeholder Meeting when asked whether the TFW units would be coming to Northern. No official announcement from any party yet
Oh they are highly unreliable hence why I said it kinda sarcastically
There’s 20 769s in storage, give Northern a good offer and they could cover 7 diagrams daily (tongue firmly in cheek but struggling to see anything else on the market)
It’s not 8 minutes max. It’s usually about 11 - 12 each way unless you get a poor path behind a Metro on the express. The express has a 26 minute turnaround at Middlesbrough which if it were a stopper would turn into a less than 5 minute one which you wouldn’t want for a service which comes from...
The train isn’t always overcrowded. Sunday to Friday there’s barely anyone standing. It’s mainly Saturday 10am to 2pm like many other lines
The 10 - 15 minute saving saving by missing 5 stops (less stops missed during rush hours) means you save a unit. Northern don’t have extra units to...
I believe it’s to avoid “cherry-picking”. As Rest Day Work at some companies is a usually a blanket rate of 10 hours at time and a half (just an example), what happens is that some drivers will be helpful and put in advance to help plan (but end up with a 9.5 hour job) whilst others will chance...
Thanks Dave, sadly not unexpected. Just a quick couple of Heaton / Northumberland line related questions.
1) Was there a reduction of 158s based at Heaton from the May timetable change? The amount of days 2 out of the 3 Northumberland line diagrams have been 156s has led to some suspicion...
For most of the day the services have a 50+ turnaround at Newcastle. They formerly went through to Carlisle but the Newcastle to Carlisle part was tacked onto to the Middlesbrough express service instead.
As identified this changes at tea time when the service that arrives into Newcastle approx...
Do the Class 323s have more room for batteries underneath for use on the Morpeth and Northumberland Line (entering the future 1001 potential uses for a class 323 contest )
People assume because of the curvature of Hartlepool that all non end door units are and will forever be banned when there are far curvier stations that see them. That comes up a lot
The added acceleration would be useful for the intermediate stops but Benton Junction to Manors would be negligible as the line speed is 25 until the full train has got over the points onto the ECML and half of the time you still have to crawl as you’re on a single yellow due to a slightly late...
