I’ve wondered myself why they do this at Derby. The via descriptions on the Arrivals board make little sense. If I am meeting someone from Newcastle I am not particularly bothered if the train subsequently goes to Bristol or Reading. Although it might possibly be useful to know whether it had...
East West Rail is open now as far as Milton Keynes. Unfortunately, as discussed elsewhere, Chiltern are unable to provide a passenger service at present. Whether Chiltern actually gets to operate the service remains to be seen.
*Any* service between Oxford and Milton Keynes would be most...
Oxford currently gets mostly 165s, typically a 2-car + 3-car. The 165s are 75mph stock so the service takes 20minutes or so longer than if it was a 168 non-stop from Bicester (which it was 1tph pre-Covid). Chiltern doesn’t really do a clock face timetable at the moment but it’s something I...
Rugby Trent Valley Jn and Stafford Trent Valley Jn. The former is less obvious than the latter but here the original straight on route is towards Coventry and Birmingham with the Trent Valley route diverging off to the right.
At Stafford the former Grand Junction line follows a gentle curve...
There was a Paddington-Hull for a while in the late 80s which ran via Birmingham and Doncaster.
Penzance to Liverpool was a regular route in the 70s and 80s also. Would often be a Class 50
Wixams is getting two side platforms but like Denham, both will face the same way. Only the Up Slow gets slewed.

The layout of the down platform may need to change.
I would love to see a regular Bristol to Milton Keynes service (if it could be made to work between Bletchley and MK). MK would be a bigger draw than Banbury and would also provide connections and new journey opportunities via the WCML to eg Northampton, Manchester etc.
I have used the Oxford-Bristol service a couple of times in that direction. First time was when the Bath Christmas Market was on - train was absolutely rammed from Swindon. Second time was 3 weeks ago. I'd say there was a similar number of people starting from Oxford on both trips and again...
