It looks like some still do. There appears to be a daily weekday return empty stock Manchester Piccadilly - Huddersfield - Newton Heath T.M.D working:

You've hit the nail on the head. I've not used the railways for over 16 months now and have no immediate intentions on returning anytime soon. I drive those journeys I once would have taken the train and find it more convenient and relaxing overall.
In these days of smartphone parking payments...
Option B retains TFW North Wales - Manchester Airport via Warrington Bank Quay.
It's the Northern Chester - Leeds service which reverts to Stalybridge.
I'd like to see option B for just a few changes:
> Cumbria services remain via Wigan NW and Chat Moss.
> A Bolton - Stalybridge service introduced to keep the proposed 10tph between Bolton & Manchester which option B offers.
> The proposed Chester - Stalybridge remain a Chester - Leeds...
The 84 is every 30 minutes between Greenfield Station and Manchester Piccadilly Gardens.
There's also possibilities to connect to Metrolink.
The 350 operates every 30 minutes for most of the day to both Oldham and Ashton-under-Lyne Metrolink stops, and there is the hourly day time 356 to the...
Oh yes, I'd forgotten about these Bryn - Manchester via Golborne & Leigh 34's. They seem to coincide with when buses will be leaving or returning to the Stagecoach depot in Bryn, rather than being of any real commercial benefit to Stagecoach. These start / finish at Bryn Railway Station which is...
It's actually surprisingly reliable in all but the worst of weather conditions. I remember one period when buses were suspended for a few hours due to snow. Normally there's just a few minor diversions to stick to main roads.
There's frequent trams near by which people can use if the demand is...
I personally think the passenger figures at Greenfield and Mossley don't justify half-hourly services outside of peak times if providing them causes a detriment to other areas. When I lived in Mossley, outside of peak times there'd be maybe an handful of users.
For example, Greenfield is 12...

I wonder if this will have much of an effect on the final outcome of the consultation.
The Cumbria services were well used between Wigan and Manchester pre-covid, and...
I agree thinking about it, an extra Scotland to Preston is pointless. In an ideal world a bay platform or 2 would be created at the Salford end of Victoria for these to terminate. I was just thinking of the problems of terminating services at Victoria which they've tried to get rid of.
In the...
I was looking through a Network North West timetable from May to September 1990 and counted 14 passenger trains an hour along the Castlefield corridor during peak times. The main difference back then was most trains were fairly 'local' (Liverpool, Blackpool, Wigan etc) with the exception of the...
Yeah, it ran aground a few times last summer whilst I was on it.
Agreed, but if Fleetwood had decent free park and ride facilities I reckon a few would travel the few extra miles to Fleetwood. Poulton doesn't have much parking (that I can think of).
With a decent sized free car park at Fleetwood I can see a Fleetwood - Preston service doing well.
It's fairly straightforward to get to Fleetwood by car from surrounding towns and villages such as Cleveleys, Knott End etc and there's certainly the space around any potential station for a...
