My proposal for railcard reform under GBR

I’ve often thought there should be a night shift worker railcard. I work on the gates at Guildford and it’s sad to see all those coming from the Royal Surrey Hospital after their night shift having to pay peak rate single fares home when they’ve already had to buy a single off peak to get to...

Cycles at Stations: Red Rear Light Safety Risk?

I’d always favour Twitter to get their attention as your tweet is public and will be seen by others.

SWR - Trainee Driver - Recruitment Discussion

Yeah that’s a good call. One of the drivers managers suggested a kids toy which I can’t for the life of me remember what it’s called. I’ll ask him again next time I see him and loom at that as well. I also think the sensitivity of the controls changed. One time I thought they had no...

SWR - Trainee Driver - Recruitment Discussion

For those asking, my experience: I applied for Guildford driver July last year, I did the online 20 questions and passed. Heard nothing till late November, went to Southampton for my fist assessment which I’m passed early December. Then I had to go back for the 2nd lot of assessments in late...

Cycles at Stations: Red Rear Light Safety Risk?

I always politely ask people to switch off their bike lights when they come through the gates.

    New paper ticket format

Recyclable. But annoying as we just get handed a scrunched up ticket now.

Why don’t heritage railways make an effort to “sell” diesel traction?

Well the Mid Hants Railway have just had our most successful diesel gala ever. I won’t go into the financial totals but we did way above what we expected in both ticket sales and secondary (beer) sales. We tend to “sell” ourselves online. Facebook and other internet forums As the gen spreads...

Lack of knowledge and common sense on Chiltern gatelines

No surprise really with Chiltern. Did you see what happened to Gavin in Gavin and Stacey when he jumped the barrier at Marylebone?!?!

    Best travel mug for work?

I use one from Ikea. It’s pretty solid and tea and coffee is still warm after 4 hours. (Search travel mug online, it’s the 2nd one down. I also keep my milk in the £3.50p bottle below the flask).

    Rail Community Officer (RCO) SWR

Apparently the previous name for this job was Rail Safe Officers so I guess it was a nation wide job that’s now been re named for each company.

    Rail Community Officer (RCO) SWR

Yeah I’m going to arrange to shadow them asap. With Christmas coming up now would be a good time to see what to expect as it’s the busiest time and longest time of the year to see what sort of problems arise. 1733249012 From what I gather it’s security based. Working with the revenue, btp etc...

    Rail Community Officer (RCO) SWR

Hi guys. So reaching the end of my 6 months probation as SWR gateline at Guildford, although I’m really enjoying the role I’m struggling with the basic wages. I knew it would be tough but was always told this would be a good stepping stone if I kept my nose clean. My thoughts have turned my...

    Job application timescales.

I’ve found the shifter app to be user friendly and easy to replicate my 8 weekly shift pattern. I’ll play with the other suggestions tho and see if they are better.
