    I've not frequently noticed the lifts being out of order, personally. I agree that the escalators are a problem.

    Not quite. They could use the lift from the Elizabeth Line platforms to the main upper ticket hall, then the other lift down to the SE platforms. No need to go out of the station.

    If anything goes wrong on the Woolwich line it's fairly normal to divert the Rainham TL trains via Bexleyheath and Lewisham.

    I've just travelled from Glasgow Central to London on Avanti and it was very pleasant. Well organised entry/exit/queueing arrangements, plenty of friendly staff on hand, no issues with taking a different train to the one I'd booked (which started at Motherwell).

    I live in South Thamesmead and use Abbey Wood station daily. I've never not got a seat. The trick is to not get on the first train to leave if it is filling up with people from a Thameslink or SE train, get on the second at the other platform.

    Also many many more channels to fill, and presumably enough viewers and advertising revenue to make repeats still viable. Netflix, Paramount, Sky etc invest lots in new programmes.

    Plenty of people don't do office jobs, and can't work from home. 24th December is a massive day for retail, leisure and hospitality in London. How would those people get to work?
