Whoops! Clearly my mind drifted back to the 2000s there, spambot isn't allowing me to edit. I did start off taking down unit numbers but by the first evening I gave up traversing the length of the HSTs to find the powercar numbers.
I don't recall ever being asked where I was travelling to on LNER services, only XC. I probably would have said Newcastle if they had asked to ensure I got food..
Having left on time at 0648 the toast came round at 0719 with the food shortly after at 0725 at the Carstairs Junction so enough time to eat before getting off at Edinburgh to catch the next train down for seconds.
It was a 3 day Britrail, so essentially an All Line Rover but without the 1000...
My first ever long train bash a few months back now :) Was in first class so wasn't so painful but I definitely would not be able to do more than 1 consecutive night on the seated coach again. Here is the journey I took, as well as what I got offered.
0530 9/9 New St - Chester 0643 (Virgin 221)...
The kitchens are at the end of the train, so usually sitting as far London-end as possible will get served first, although I did go on 1 azuma service where they went all the way to the other end of the first class section then work backwards
Someone with toast came round with one of the drinks carts at the same time and the way they asked if you want toast implied that it was only 1 slice. I didn’t bother asking for 2.
Went on a few LNER first class services last week:
9/9 1458 York - KGX on HST: all day menu chicken casserole
10/9 0648 Glasgow - Edinburgh on IC225: breakfast menu full LNER + 1 slice of toast
10/9 0830 Edinburgh - Newcastle on HST: breakfast menu full LNER + 1 slice of toast
10/9 1026...
I went on 2 XC first class services with supposedly the hot food menu. On one the staff knew nothing about it and the other offered a hot bacon roll only. Although both had sandwiches available and drinks services. But would avoid going on too long a journey with them given that offering.
Sorry if it has been asked before, but I'm curious to know if this is possible. I am travelling from London to Cambridge, and 2 advance fares from Rugby to Cambridge and then Cambridge to Rugby (via London) works out quite a bit cheaper than an open return ticket from London to Cambridge. The...
Was on the above train today, which was meant to call at Duddeston at 1119, but I was slightly bemused to find that the train overshot the platform, with rapid deceleration only stopping the train about 200 yards past the station. The train then had to continue forward to Aston. The guard had...
