It must be quite unusual to have such a heavily reworked and re-engined locomotive without a new classification (per Class 29, 31, 57, 69) and to have two quite different locomotive designs sharing the same subclass?
Spencer Flack used to display a bright red Spitfire Mk XIV, G-FIRE, at air shows in the 1970s. When challenged on the red scheme, his alleged retort was when you own a Spitfire, you can paint it any colour you want.

Arguably far more than two. Like dangerous lineside trees, a rolling replacement programme for the existing ferries, starting twenty years ago, would have been a better approach than throwing everything (and the kitchen sink) at two large ferries.

I don't agree with this bit. In terms of tree cover we are far behind Finland, Sweden (which I expected), Portugal and Spain (which I didn't) when comparing European countries. People find all sorts of spurious reasons to remove mature trees, including supposedly sustainable urban regeneration...
