Barry Scrapyard - Steam Locomotive Graveyard.

I remember that article, and the attempt to save D601 (thankfully, I managed to see her twice before she was cut); such a shame it never came about, but I also remember the almost total bias against diesels, even then!

    Ironing

Never let your Mother, Girlfriend or Wife do your ironing, either; best results are D.I.Y !!

    Flying Scotsman nameplate

Expected, I would imagine?!? I remember an Old Oak Common open day during the early '90's, where there were loads of newly ripped-off Class 50 nameplates for sale at around £100.00; horrible plates, but I wish I'd bought a few then!!!!

    The EU "Deal" - poll!

No way can we remain in the EU; May was possibly the worst home secretary in my 40+ voting years, and now she's given it all away without a fight to a bunch of Eurocrats who have never quite got over the fact that we saved their collective nations in both World Wars. I speak as one who has...

You're kidding!! We all used to 'Bunk Off' school , from time to time, back in the long, lost '60's!!! I'm a South Londoner, by the way!

Waiting in a coffee shop without purchasing anything?

Welshbluebird, agreed you should buy something if you're using their facilities, and last time I passed through Woking is was a RAILWAY Station !!!!

Better names for Old Oak Common

Western Ways, in tribute to a lost way of life and superb depot

Environmental impact of not electrifying the GWML

With you 100% Thunderer, this great route was never in need of electrification, simply a 21st Century HST would have given us everything, and more. Deluded Politicians with no real-life experience, surrendering to hysterical climate change dogma are ruining this country, and this been but a...

    What's your favourite railway book?

There are many I could name as personal favourites such as 'Southern Steam Surrender' and that ilk, but my vote goes to an early (1974) David&Charles book on the WR Hydraulics, which gives a really interesting account of some less known problems the introduction of the initial locomotives faced...
