London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

A summer menu in 1st class has now been introduced—I assume yesterday, since on 1S11 the menus were swapped over before departure. Nothing showing online yet. No obvious change on the stripped back All Day menu, perhaps there's some changes in the others? Also noticed that the previous artisan...

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) First Class service

Facilities at Leuchars otherwise are rudimentary and the platform is famously windswept and exposed, so it makes a lot of sense to use this facility which was built (or at least a Portakabin craned in) for the purpose. I'd guess that the university and golf markets at St Andrews generate a fair...

Trivia : shortest and longest time between stations

Carnoustie to Golf Street, 1 minute on 1T16 and 1.5 mins on the two other trains that serve both.

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

Quite. The chocolate is absurd—you couldn't find a more obvious way of rubbing your customers' noses in the fact that you're cutting costs. It would be better to ditch it entirely (which is no doubt imminent!).

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Yes, 5 were out today. Worth mentioning that this also marks the (re)opening of the Seagate depot in Dundee as a charging facility. All 5 appeared at Dundee yesterday and were there overnight. 76128 in service this morning: https://flic.kr/p/2smvXEz

Most multiple units used for a service

Regional Railways ran a special train for its staff (so not exactly in service, but still running with passengers) formed of 6 x 158s on 13 October 1990.

    Catch them before they're gone

A couple of updates from my InterRail trip earlier this month. Had a great run from Ulm to Oberstdorf behind a pair of 218s on IC2013 on 19 May, returning to Strasbourg on the 20th. https://flic.kr/p/2sgbYXr In Strasbourg the 2 diesel-hauled commuter sets are still working. I caught a run...

    Stagecoach East Scotland

Yes, correct—it was still at St Andrews quite recently though I think it may have left a couple of weeks ago. Haven't been past in a couple of weeks.

    Eurostar Plus is becoming worse

Paying an extra €10 to drink the filthy instant coffee they serve in Plus doesn't sound like a great deal to me

The website suggests that they are running a shuttle. https://www.stagecoachbus.com/service-updates/serviceupdatesarticle?SituationId=ID-29/04/2026-08:29:30:713

    BR Electric Blue numberplate font

Or, as I suggested earlier, taken from a designer's drawing and not from any commercially available typeface. Given that Design Research Unit had a considerable involvement in all aspects of the visual design of the AL1-5 electrics, it's almost certain that they specified the design which was...

    BR Electric Blue numberplate font

Bear in mind that any non-print lettering of this era may well have been custom designed or taken from a specialist supplier so it's highly unlikely you'll find a match in any currently available font. In an application such as this it may even have come from a BR drawing with only the letter...

The facility at Dundee has been completed this week—it looks like the contractors are now off site.

Alexander Dennis future - announcement today

Indeed: on a visit to Falkirk about a decade ago we were told that the roof of the main assembly building has leaked for years, and there's no way of fixing it without suspending production. For all these reasons investment in recent years seems to have been concentrated in Scarborough.

3rd round of Scottish Zero Emission funding announced

What's much more interesting is the change of heart for Volvo who have gone all in for supplying complete vehicles with a single bodybuilding partner (eg MCV). This goes against the grain of that policy completely.
