“Extreme day trippers” on the rise

It wasn’t meant to be that way! I used to work for British Caledonian and went to LA to test a new reservation system enhancement. We were met at the airport and told that it wasn’t available so elected to come straight back on the same aircraft! This was before email so communication was...

“Extreme day trippers” on the rise

I’ve done Day trips to Los Angeles and New York and the New York one was on Concorde. i gave the environment a body blow.

Any experiences with narrow-body aircraft long haul?

Heathrow to New York on Concorde. Very narrow bodied, service was great and didn’t have enough time to sleep. But I imagine that this plane doesn’t really count.

Airline Overbooking, is it always beneficial to airlines?

I I spent twenty years in BA’s revenue management department doing exactly that. It’s not an exact science but we got it right about 98%. When it does go wrong we buy ourselves out of trouble. By paying compensation often well in excess of the price of the ticket, paying for meals and...

Passengers boarding the wrong aeroplane and ending up in the wrong destination.

There’s a security issue if someone travels on a flight they’re not booked on and checked in on and even more so if their bag is on a flight that the passenger isn’t on.

Passengers boarding the wrong aeroplane and ending up in the wrong destination.

Quite. The boarding pass scanner would always ‘beep‘ angrily and turn red if there were seat changes made after the original boarding pass was issued. This happened a lot especially on long haul flights especially when you had upgrades and seating people together and for many other reasons...

Passengers boarding the wrong aeroplane and ending up in the wrong destination.

To my shame I let it happen once and actually boarded a passenger for a completely different flight! I should have checked the boarding pass more carefully and realised when the boarding pass reader flashed red and made an uncomfortable noise something wasn’t right. Fortunately a much more...

    British Airways

I think St Louis was last served by British Caledonian, possibly as a stopover on the way to Dallas Fort Worth.

Trivia: shortest domestic flights over land

Thanks, that reminds me. I used to work for British Caledonian and one flight a day went from Gatwick to Glasgow then to Edinburgh before going back to Gatwick, BR949 and it was known as the round Robin.

Trivia: shortest domestic flights over land

Also, I did the ‘Airlink’ helicopter between Heathrow and Gatwick. It was about 30 miles in a straight line and took 15 minutes. It was in 1984.

Trivia: shortest domestic flights over land

I once did Eindhoven to Rotterdam on a KLM Cityhopper F28. All of fifteen minutes On a jet.

    British Airways

It’s not a Revenue Management decision, I spent most of my career in BA’s Revenue Management department and we only dealt with maximising revenue on aircraft, most noteably through overbooking. Putting passengers on buses is for operational reasons. Now working at the airport for them, BA...
