The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

I'm pleased Andy Burnham will become Prime Minister. I regard him as being in the centre of the party. He was more wishy washy in the past but has become a better politician now. It's ironic how the party heirarchy tried to stop him becoming leader in 2015 and then Josh Simons who is on the...

    Supermarkets discussion

Asda which used to be Booths in Hale Barns is becoming Waitrose. I am very pleased about this. I have never been to the Altrincham one and the Wilmslow one has awkward access. I am mainly in Edinburgh and mainly go to the Morningside one most days but when I'm in England (and staying in...

Lothian Group discussion (Lothian City, Lothian Country Bus and East Coast Buses)

I am really happy with the state of the Lothian Buses network TBH, I am fortunate to have bought a whole year bus pass that is valid until 2027. I signed a petition that the 18 bus should be extended to Fort Kinnaird in 2004 but it didn't happen until 2017. I am 37 years old, I work at Sight...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

I think Labour can narrowly hold the Makerfield by election by about 2% over Reform. The party is united around Burnham which is good and Burnham's popularity should offset the unpopularity of Labour. I think Starmer will stagger on until 2027/28 and then Burnham may replace him then.

    Northumberland Line reopening: progress updates

The Northumberland line stations don't seem to be on the Scotrail ticket machines yet. Strange. Not that many people will buy them from those anyway. Anyway I'm going to Bedlington on the 29th. Will have to remember about the clocks.

    December 2025 East Coast Timetable

My TPE train (802205) was 43 minutes late from Newcastle to Edinburgh on Sunday although my £5.90 delay repay is being processed now. It was very chaotic with the last minute platform alteration to 4 and everyone stampeding over the bridge.

Northumberland Park to Newcastle: journey time comparison Metro Vs Northern

I'm going to Northumberland Park today. I will arrive on the TPE service from Edinburgh just after 11am and then I will get the Metro to Northumberland Park so I don't have to wait ~45 minutes. If it was Mon-Sat though I'd probably just wait for the next Northern service even if I just missed one.

I thought they couldn't go round Bonaly which is why the 10 and 16 were switched?

    Airports you have used

I think probably the old Stapleton airport is as far west as I've been in the US as well as Chicago, Dulles, Boston etc not sure about Reagan National. I think as a baby I went to Taipei, Chep Lap Kok, Sydney etc. Also I've been to Milan Linate, Pisa, Venice , Naples, Vienna Rome Fiumicino...

    Airports you have used

Only airports I've used in the United Kingdom are Belfast City, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Gatwick and Heathrow. I don't know if Norwich counts as an AirUk/KLM Edinburgh-Amsterdam flight was diverted there (then back to Edinburgh) instead of Amsterdam due to fog in...

    Reform UK discussion

They have been doing well for the past year though and there have been quite a few by elections in West Lothian and Greater Glasgow over the past year including in this one where they have been consistently pushing 25% so I would expect Reform to easily get 3 MSPs in the central scotland and...

    Reform UK discussion

Reform has just won its first by election in Scotland in Whitburn and Blackburn ward with 32%. I'm surprised they pulled this off under AV TBH, given they were only 4% ahead of the SNP. I haven't had time to analyse all the transfers or lack of yet though presumably from the independent...

Glasgow rail + Subway "Roundabout" tickets: valid on buses? Available at Subway stations?

I hope this is the right thread to ask this so can I ask a question about topping up the Subway card? Are you able to top up any amounts or does it have to be in £5 increments as the mybramble website would appear to suggest? I ordered my subway card last week which arrived last Friday and had...

ORR estimates of station usage 2024/25

I suppose Morpeth has quite a large catchment area, basically all the way up to Rothbury etc and much better long distance service now than it had over a decade ago. Also the fast services to Newcastle still make using Morpeth worthwhile rather than switching to Ashington. It's maybe more...

Did HS2 have to go into Euston rather than another London terminal?

I'm interested to see how OOC works in practice when it eventually opens. Hopefully like a simplified version of Shinagawa but we'll see.
