1970-1974 WCML Weaver Jct -Glasgow electrification

Once when traveling from Preston to London my electrically hauled train was diverted via Earlestown to Warrington due to engineering works, in the 1980's I think.

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

I'm 82 years old and have a smart phone and always use the self service check out where available. I would like a robot like Linda to look for my marbles.

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Perfetto! However when Italians go to bed they put on a pigiama (singular) whilst we put on a pair of pajamas even though there's only one of them!

    Isolated, and Very Isolated, railways

One line that I always wondered what it was there for when studying my rail map of Australia was the line from Croydon to Normanton in Queensland. Totally isolated from the the rest of the Queensland network it runs diesel railcar service called the Gulflander.

    Railway books discussion

So the 1400's are the veterans now! When I used to go there they were the modern intruders we tried to avoid, like the FLIRT units of today ( or is it tomorrow?). I'm sure it's a good book but, for me,the Douro valley had its heart ripped out when all the narrow gauge lines were closed. I...

Trivia: shortest train journey crossing a national border (both within the UK and abroad)?

Here's the Ceske Venice to Gmund train arriving in Gmund I photographed in 1971 behind a class 556 2-10-0. Impressive motive power for such a short journey! 1785404209 Ceske Velenice not Venice!

    Manchester area steam sheds

The Fowler 0-8-0's spent their last days at sheds such as Bolton, Agecroft, Aintree and Wigan (L & Y) on pick-up freights. They were known to us spotters as Clonks, due to the sound they made.

    Manchester area steam sheds

As a spotter in Leyland in the 1950's I used to often cycle up to Midge Hall at around 7pm to see the Liverpool portion of a train from Glasgow which was regularly hauled by a loco from Kingmoor shed, normally a Clan or a Jubilee. My 1958 Locoshed Book shows Clans 72000 and 72002 at Haymarket. I...

    Clickbait advertising on the forum

The ladies in the adverts look so perfect that I think they may be computer generated.

    Clickbait advertising on the forum

I keep getting the Falke ladies bottoms ads but it's difficult to tell which are the ones forum members are putting on and which are from the company. I don't think the clothing they are advertising is for me!

    Reform UK discussion

If Count Bin face did win I would very much applaud the voters of Clapton and their ability to influence this election!
