When walking along track, why shouldn't you step on sleepers?

Wet wooden sleepers are lethal. Ice-like levels of slippery.

Why is Edge Hill closed on Sundays?

It was post 1999. We moved to Huyton in 99 and (having had my memory jogged by this thread) can vaguely remember Roby not having a Sunday service. If I had to guess I’d say it gained a Sunday service whilst I was in high school somewhere between 2003-2008.

    European tram cab ride view.

There are videos of the entire Manchester Metrolink network on YouTube. They’re on Don Coffey’s channel and feature some excellent driving…

Why is Edge Hill closed on Sundays?

Demand is hardly better through the week. Doesn’t help that it’s a barren, desolate, run down shadow of its former self.

Is 5mph the slowest speed limit possible?

It’s 4mph. That’s the lowest speed limit that can currently be set on Metrolink.

    DB Cargo UK being sold

This is one of the least surprising things I’ve heard in a while. The whole operation has had an air of neglect about it for years.

    Merseyrail 777 introduction

It seems like an incredibly overcomplicated system (as with a lot of things 777 related). On an M5000 preselecting a door simply requests that individual door. The only way a door would open during a wrong side door release is if someone has requested that door. It has happened in the past...

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

It’s mostly down to rail conditions, nothing to do with the bridges. There’s an ongoing programme of rerailing going on but it takes time. Most of those restrictions will be lifted in the coming days as things bed in. I don’t think the 4mph TSR will be lifted though as I’m fairly certain...

    Wheel Lathe list

Always struck me as a strange decision that.

    Wheel Lathe list

We have two. One at Queens Road and the other at Trafford. Both are capable of turning wheels to the full P8 profile. There was talk of an ELR 08 coming down for work but apparently we can’t do the centre wheel set which is P9(?).

Which are the best and worst units and stock for Aircon in Heatwave?

Desiros have always had incredible aircon, sometimes even in winter…

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

Even the northern ones feel rough though, only marginally better than the WMT ones, refurb or no.

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

That’s what I’d hope for, but it entirely depends on whether the paths are available, especially if the LNR Crewe service extension to Vic is going ahead? They’re great units, but they are feeling increasingly decrepit. The ex WMT ones in particular all smell of wet dog, but theyre all...

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

How on earth do you come to that conclusion?!?! There is absolutely no way anybody could even begin to justify such a ridiculous suggestion. Not a bad idea! As other have said, there are multiple booked 6 car diagrams on the Chat Moss at the moment. The line with its ridiculous 1tph simply...

Class 350/2s to replace 323s on Northern

And therein lies the problem. The odd occasion that a 331/1 turns up on a Chat Moss stopper vice a pair of /0s they’re really overcrowded. The 1700 off Deansgate is booked for a pair of /0s and would never cope being dropped to 4. The 331 fleet should never have been ordered as it is, but that’s...
