Sign language on train route information displays (and station departure boards)

There's then an argument that the BSL version should be online/on an app as well. Careful what you wish for!

Short intercity trains should be hurled into the sun

British trains will always, in effect, be bespoke. You can't just take, say, a DB ICE design and build some for Britain.

    Class 175s to GWR

They would have added cabs to the Mark 3 trailers. The design work was done, I believe.

    'Upgraded' GWR IET seats

They're still paying if it is the maintenance contract. Siemens won't have forgotten to include the cost!

    Class 175s to GWR

Those 180s were made available by FGW taking on lease five extra HST sets after Project Rio finished. Before the 180s were ordered GWT had intended to create some 1+4 half HST sets. The idea was they would run to Swindon (or Bristol Parkway?) then split with half to Bristol TM and half to...

Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

Not sure you understand quite what a difference a yellow end made when trains had no bright headlights. The reason for the 701s and 720s is probably to make it easier and cheaper to relivery as they already had yellow ends - and redoing the ends with vinyls and/or touching up with paint is...

Face & hand scans at Eurostar terminals?

I still do not understand what the EES process is meant to be. I have been scanned, re-scanned numerous times going through EU airports at kiosks, by some random member of staff in the queue and at the manned booths. Then you might get your passport stamped. Or not. Which might cause you an...

Most notably the Eschede catastrophe in June 1998 involving a DB ICE running at 200km/h.

Incident between Wigan Wallgate and Southport (29th August 2026)

More critically, was the red light showing? Regardless of the position of the gates, if the crossing light is red, you stop.

Can anyone identify this 153 inside Crewe Carriage Shed

The vehicle on the right of the photo provided by the OP is a 170 and described as such. We are talking about the vehicle on the left, which is clearly not a 170 - it obviously has a cab end gangway for starters.

1970-1974 WCML Weaver Jct -Glasgow electrification

Indeed... I well remember being behind a Siemens ES64F4 arriving at München Ost, doing well over 60mph at the platform end. Dynamic brake in and stopped perfectly at the required stopping point! Very impressive.

How feasible would it be for trains to have 'wheels on rails' sensors ?

Track circuits are fail safe i.e. the wheels/axle break the circuit.
