Tickets - Is possession of them theft ?

Depends how you paid, for example if by debit / credit card then you could refute such a claim by the TOC by showing no refund onto the said card. Have to say not been an issue when I've had to complain about delays (Scotrail barriers retain the tickets on exit, but you do get a receipt slip...

    Electrodiesel Class 22x?

I would still advocate if you wanted to use 222s on the ECML North of Edinburgh that the transformer cars are added but the diesel power units are removed to make them straight electric and drag them north! The hybrid thing is just too wasteful on infrastructure wear & energy consumption (which...

Tickets - Is possession of them theft ?

You can ask for a receipt when buying tickets, and when I buy my season ticket they always give me one. So this caters for expense claims and could be used I presume to claim for delays as well. To be honest I think the initial point seemed to be getting at recycling old tickets as a TOC...

    Electrodiesel Class 22x?

No no no no!!! Edinburgh - Kings Cross with electric traction (EMUs can be comfortable long distance with correct specified interior!) then stick a diesel loco on for the northern sections to Aberdeen / Inverness. Why would you want to lug diesel power units & associated auxiliaries under the...

    1st Class Glasgow - Edinburgh

Given it will be a horrible Voyager on AXC save yourself a few minutes and go Queen St - Edinburgh with a 170! First class you'll get a cup of tea / coffee / biscuits & fruit salad thing or chocolate!

    Best Mainline Loco in 2011?

37s in regular use with DRS, 47s with WCRC, DRS, 86s still worked heavily by FL & 60s being overhauled by DBS & certainly still working daily! In terms if diesel freight locos working heavy loads you are correct! Trouble with HST powercar debate is they are whatever you believe them to be! I...

    Irish Mk 3s for sale

What about the MK3s working with HSTs since 1976 & still in service! They will be required under current GWML to carry on for a significant length of time, not just a few years. ROSCOS currently looking at how to life extend! The IE mk3s are significantly younger, & would certainly need a heavy...

    Irish Mk 3s for sale

Keep up! DRS Eurolights ring a bell, and seen the UK gauge TRAXX proposal? Services like Fife Circle ate using mk 2s so IE Mk3s would be an upgrade. Remember once done on the Fife circle that stock may be used for fill in services elsewhere!

    D800 MAN L12V18/21B Power Unit

I think the clue is in the D800, which would suggest a Warship, not a class 22. I believe they weren't that unreliable in service. As to what you do with it, let's wait & see?

    Best Mainline Loco in 2011?

Depends on criteria, best express passenger loco class 91 (only EP loco?), best freight loco class 59 based on reliability & cost to run. However, given longevity & overall reliable service you could make the case for class 37 / 47! I'll go with class 37 on they make the best noise criteria!

Most Unsuccessful Loco Designs On British Railways

Hymeks were type 3s, so could handle similar duties to class 37s or indeed a class 31! I was reading the memoires of a WR traction inspector who was most uncomplimentary about the class 31s which replaced the Hymeks. Not sure how easy ETH would have been to fit though? --- old post above --- ---...

    Irish Mk 3s for sale

Sorry but the HSTs will be running for a bit more than 5 - 10 years under the current proposals for GWML electrification, as they will be running most of the Paddington - Penzance services! The whole electrification proposal is flawed, electrify to Swansea & Plymouth with straight EMUs with...

How would a non-electrified Birmingham Cross City Line look today?

Point 1 - no, WMPTE had been trying to get this electrified since the 70s! Think about Birmingham - Walsall! There were issues in that politicians used WMPTE for infighting for years and cross city electrification had a watertight funding case! In fact delaying it cost us money as aging & life...

Most Unsuccessful Loco Designs On British Railways

Wrong! A 40 can move a heavier freight train than a 47! Also had rather good MPC figures. In terms of this guessing game MPC & cost per mile to run seem to have been rather ignored! For example how could anyone seriously claim the 66s are unsuccessful! Nonsense, excellent locos, cheap to...
