Pre-Nationisation coaching stock in blue and grey.

Remember often seeing Vacuum braked MK1 SK's at Paddington in the early 1970's labelled Dual Heated ( Electric Heat Not Operative ). I believe that the explanation was that the vehicles were built with dual heating but the ETH was never comissioned as the WR had no ETH locos at the time. The...

Where can the oldest colour light signal on the national network be found?

The down home at Ledbury may be a contender.

The explosion and fire that wrecked 1562 at Haughley Junction, 13/03/1971.

Sounds like a crankcase explosion from overpressure. Sometimes caused by broken piston rings allowing fuel to enter the crankcase.

Could Class 43s haul carriages other than mk3s?

In the BR era ( 1970/80 ) HST's running on 1 power car were common when the Paxman engines had overheating problems. Was on several where it was a slow climb up from Stroud to Sapperton summit.

    Southern Region Class 73 & 74 locos

They would start the diesel engine a few minutes before. Then at the end of the 3rd Rail, close the electric controller and open the diesel controller.

    Southern Region Class 73 & 74 locos

Top speed on diesel was the same as on electric. 80 mph for 73/0 90 mph for 73/1 and 74 They only could reach top speed on diesel when running light.

Would Battery Tenders Work for Electric Locos off the Wires?

A simpler solution would be a battery shunting loco to move trains between the reception road and terminal

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

For "Worst Railway Journeys in the UK" my vote would be a journey from Cardiff to Manchester in a TFW Class 153. There were several today according to Realtimetrains.

    Greater Anglia Wi-Fi

Must have been a fault on that particular train. WiFi on 755 and 745 is usually very good even in rural area's.

Looking for photos of 1980s sleeper trains, a bit of help needed.

The report on the 1983 Paddington accident on railwaysarchive.co.uk has a list of the vehicles and the formation. You may find it useful.

DfT has spent a total of £52.3M on transitioning Network Rail to Great British Railways so far

I was there on BR in the 70's/80's The scenario was just the same with restrictions on who does what and where. Co-operation between regions for Crews/Locos/stock etc could take several days if it happened at all. I am afraid BR is not a good example to plan for the future.
