Hitchin, St Neots, Ely, March all used to have InterCity services - I counted Cambridge to Blackpool as InterCity Cross Country.

Let's not forget Shrewsbury and Telford - 6 tpd until May 1992, changing from diesel to electric at Wolverhampton.

The Cambrian Coast Express was a further extension of this service, 1 tpd to/from Aberystwyth until 1990, but with the DVT, first class and buffet car removed.

Also: Milford Haven had an HST to Paddington, as did Fishguard Harbour with the 0150 service. In summer and at bank holidays the lunchtime service was also an HST.

Ely and March still have services that are "arguably" InterCity, from EMT and XC. There is a bit of a "grey area" on what counts as "InterCity" these days. Even BR InterCity operated 158s...

Manchester Victoria isn't any more an intercity station than Liverpool Central. Both have had longer distance services in the past but are now well utilised stations containing only local services.

I suppose technically London Victoria and Gatwick Airport, now that Gatwick Express is part of Southern... Although 442's are probably the closest thing you get to "Intercity" in third-rail land these days.

Where to/from?!

Paddington/Poole to New Street and beyond. Some of the Solihull trains used to stop at Dorridge as well before they were all diverted via Coventry. The 1974-75 GBTT shows all the NW/SE services going this way and stopping at both in the main.

Some services used to call at Welwyn Garden City.
I remember around 1978 getting a 313 from Hatfield to WGC then boarding a Newcastle service at WGC & got off next stop at Hitchin (overtaking the Cambridge service we missed at Hatfield so we could get it at Hitchin!).

I don't recall Romford having Inter City stops. Most Clacton trains were stopping there until recently (although that was a fairly new addition), but now they don't.

Shenfield has lost most (or all?) of its Norwich express stops now.

You could argue everything south of the Thames that used to have an Intercity service now lacks one (apart from HS1/ Eurostar/ the XC service from Bournemouth).
