Last passenger working 31/12/25

It’s done ECS moves, test runs etc
This year but not a passenger working.

After a summer of driving to Manchester, and with the benefit of having avoided a lot of weeks of units on 1W11, I will return to sample the Mk4 experience on Tuesday. I bought first class advances so there must be some thought of providing a Mk4 set. Return is 1V62 which is another train which has been a substitution a lot when I read this thread. Presumably, the sale of first class advances yesterday is encouraging.

Driving saves an hour, but is not as much fun when the weather goes bad.

Just because they are selling first class tickets does not guarantee it will not be swapped for a unit on the day, this happened to me last week.
I have seen first class advances for sale on the same morning for services that have already been swapped for units.

The main hope is that selling tickets so close to the train running means that they at least think they will have a Mk4 on it.

Given how often the diagram has been planned to be a unit, the selling of tickets is a theoretical improvement.

Sadly there are few days go by when every single service of the 5 diagrams is operated by a Mk4. We all take our chances in that regard.

(My preference remains a 5-car 197, but the depot at Chester is too small)

All diagrams covered last Wednesday, Thursday, 4 sets covered most Friday due to a set being marooned at Chester Thursday night & 1 failure.
All covered Saturday & Sunday.
5 sets out this Morning.

HD01 on 1W11 this morning. Nice and quiet in first.

After a summer of driving, I had forgotten about that forward and backward motion carriages make when they get into an osciliation pattern. The only trains I had used this summer were 170s, 220s and GWR 80x which do not do that. I do not miss that one.

Interesting observation, is this when the locomotive is propelling the set? Its been too many years now for me since last travelling on a DVT rake.

Propelling

I had to think then and now remember that it was the DVT that came into Pontypool first this morning. In my defence it was 05:07 when the train arrived.
