No, the competition law element effectively went away when all franchised TOCs fell into Government control in 2020. For the purposes of the Competition Act, all those TOCs, NR and the DfT are now in the same competitive “entity”.
The lawyering comes about from the various companies doing additional services (for each other) which were originally carried out purely by one of those companies for itself. This applies to staffing as well with the additional problem of joint staff having to be legally placed in one company only and some record made of the “contracting out” element.
It isn’t rocket science or terribly complicated but it just needs a methodical approach.
What a terrible map.
If GBR is the brand, why are there 'other operators' - surely XC, LNER and EMR will also be GBR services within the lifetime of the map.
And if GBR: Anglia is the brand, why isn't it mentioned, and why are there separate colours for C2C and greater Anglia services, which are no longer separate operations?
If this map is supposed to be showing passengers where services go, the old GA method of colouring in Intercity, Commuter, West Anglia, Regional and Stansted Ex services in different colours (whatever the actual names were) was far clearer than this map, which implies I can get a direct train from Sudbury to Norwich.
Anyone who thinks that GBR is going to care about its passengers should be given a copy of this map and a wall to bang their head against until they realise that no one has a clue what GBR actually means for passengers!

The map doesn't even show the Cambridge-Hitchin-King's Cross route, as an "other operator". TSGN is also a GBR operator.

I think it’s because I so liked working for Anglia Railways that after being embarrassingly saddled with ‘one’ and employed under National Express I was so hoping for better. I always associated it with some soulless municipal body title.

They have but they don’t have control of the track - that is still with NR, despite the Scottish Government funding it. They want to own the track but, so far, Westminster hasn’t wanted to relinquish control.

GA / GBR seem to have run 720144 up to Kings Lynn. Probably the first time a 720 has been up here since 2020. Any ideas why?

No political stunt or waste. I was under the impression it was to check the OHL at the request of Network Rail.
It was indeed to check the OLE with the special OLE monitoring equipment on that particular unit. This follows several incidences of damage to pantographs in the last week (which had not been found through inspection and standard pantograph cameras).

I was told they found something else unrelated that wants looking at.
A geometry issue but nothing that would have caused the chips in the pantographs.

So we now have a Doctor/Flying GBR, rather than a Doctor Yellow/Flying Banana, going over the LT&SR/Essex Thameside network and up to King’s Lynn! It’s good that Greater Anglia have enough spare Class 720s that it can be used across the GBR Anglia network for that purpose.
Was it in passenger service or ECS? I was told that the station was extra busy yesterday, guess that explains why.

It was ECS (I saw it go past at Ely - looked smart in fresh GBR livery, although personally I think that livery is too 'retro BR blue' for my taste, but maybe it's intentionally boring?).
