General observation, not part of my reply:-
But does that mean that the original intention was that its faults (which it self-evidently had, if it hasn't been accepted) were to be rectified at Etches Park?
Does explain partly why Etches Park can't keep up with maintenance if they're also expected to rectify poor work at the factory. And is the intention that Hitachi will work on them at Long Marston? Or just kicked into the long grass - probably literally ...
Does anyone know?

I have tried looking in the thread for the answer, but when the 810 was put into service, was there a single test unit for passenger service or multiple passenger units put onto diagrams to see how they perform before rolling out more units?

Problem with 018 has meant the cancellation of the 05:48 NOT - STP this morning.

Even more confused at the poor Class 810 diesel performance after sampling Avanti's 805's on diesel.
It seems the Avanti sets with the slightly more powerful engines - as fitted to the 810's - are a step up over the existing class 802's with 100mph reached in well under four minutes and only 20 seconds slower to 100mph than the fastest 810s on diesel.
The 810's really don't feel as though they have an extra engine on board.
Unfortunately the DAS system on the 805 must have been faulty as the set did not exceed 110mph.
But neither are a Class 222 beater on diesel.

And 810016 conked out at Derby on a down Sheffield but it seems to have been rejuvenated.
Is the plan still only 4 810s out?
Wife was on it and was told ‘terminating at Derby due to no fuel’.

Back to this from a few pages back - article in Rail magazine today suggests that DFTO (Dept for Transport) might well be trying to do exactly this to some extent (renegotiating what is due to go to Scotland):

I believe 810003 and 810004 went straight from Newton Aycliffe to the RIDC (Asfordby) nearly 18 months ago. Not sure if they are still there.

I've been looking at RTT the last few days and the 810s do seem to be improving which is good.
A few cancelled services today due to failure of trains (reason gave by RTT)but not sure if are 222s.
4 still out now and running well with the 5th finished it's diagram for the day and prob back at Etches Park now.

Do we know if 810s can run yet as 10 cars because on the strike days EMR need to run 10 cars otherwise people might find themselves waiting for hours without a train

EMR appear to be suggesting that they are to declassify first class . Can't see it will make that much difference.
Yes 10 car in passenger use is allowed.

Test run as it originated at Old Dalby with 004 (which went to Sheffield and back after the two split at Derby)
Test run.
003 and 004 are Hitachi test units, and need to return to Newton Aycliffe for work to be done to them to bring them up to passenger standard.

Given the grades striking it is unlikely that they have sufficient staff to run services as 10 cars on strike days given the need for competent people in each unit.

True only good thing about these strike days is that it is an extra day for etches to fix some issues with some trains that would normally be in service
How?
The depot have the same Amount of staff working on strike days as they do on other day.
Normal work will be undertaken.
Unless they have extra staff working them extra work will not be undertaken.

Yes, but if the trains are not in service they are not generating more faults, nor is exam work needed on one of the days. So there is time available to fix pre-existing faults, because the staff aren't being used for exam work or fixing new faults.

Less trains in service as its an hourly service on all intercity and connect routes.
Yes but they have the same (never enough) number of fitters doing the same programmed work. They don't magically multiply to be able to do more work if you park more trains on the depot.

Reread what I wrote. Same staff on depot to do the normal work. Unless extra staff no extra work will get down.
