810019 managed its first full day in service yesterday (if we ignore it having a door issue on its last trip...)

Its now failed on its first trip today and returning to depot

Unfortunately 222020 is taking over DY701 for now until there is another aurora available, currently only 4 in service at the moment.

Going backwards.

Started the day with just 5/6 diagrams.810019 appears to have terminated at Leicester working 1C17 so down to jus 4 diagrams already.

Does not appear to be any test or driver training runs scheduled for today unless 5Q63 runs from Old Dalby to St Pancras later with 810003 810004

Both scheduled test runs from Merchants Park to York,Newcastle,Doncaster etc were cancelled.

810006,810008,810009,810010,810011,810014,810018 all presumably OOS on EP.

If any EMT management fancy a job change, they would fit in well at Transport For Wales.

It's quite ironic with all of these door issues, that the reason for pocket doors in the first place was that Hitachi stated they would be more reliable than plug socket doors which would have given a much more pleasing aesthetic.

They will start to run out of space to store any more soon.
Reads like from the start of the "Red for Danger" book of the early days of the railways with engineers working throught each night hoping to have enough engines in service the next day...(it quoted Derby as well!)

Given the difference in age and budgets, this makes the 769 saga look like a relatively successful programme. o_O

Emt management could be doing everything they absolutely can do, but if hitachi don't supply them the units what do you expect them to do?

They appear to have run the majority of STP to Sheffield/Nottingham so far today?

A lot of what I've been reading in here has been door fault, problem with the doors, door, doors etc. Surely there is going to have to be a proper, long-term fix designed and implemented as soon as possible. The 810s will have to get the modern, door type-appropriate equivalent of what had to be done to the 155s.

I imagine they have to find the real problem causing the door fault. Design something different, purchase materials, extensive testing, prove it works, retro fit into units, all the time with having few of any spare units.

Our Hitachi 385s have plug doors and problems are very rare indeed. They've obviously designed a decent plug door so I wonder why they didn't use it elsewhere.

bit of a mare on the MML for the 810s today, 810012 pulled off 1C16 with a failure, to be replaced by 810013 which was pulled off 2A56 which was cancelled due to an incident near Luton, which has caused 810015 to be pulled as well, not sure whether it was the unit involved or not, but it is at Kettering off-timetable under 5Z03 now. 810016 is running OK though, however it would appear to be the only one of the day (so far, chances are it'll fail later in the day anyways now that I've said that)...

Edit: 810015 now returning southbound, possibly to resume service, still under 5Z03 for now.

Interestingly on 1F20 today it didn't lose time over Sharnbrook or Desborough banks, so possibly back on electric. I'll have to dig out on RTT how it went Thursday/Fri
It ran exceptionally well yesterday on 1F25, in fact we arrived in Leicester 2 mins early, helped by a RT Class 360 put over at Wellingborough North, which we passed at Kettering before it had even opened its doors.
When I left it at Derby it arrived early, not sure what happened later in the journey.

Pretty much comparable with a 'good' Meridian for line speed

Thanks.
As an aside the down Corby trains are almost all booked to cross at Wellingborough North during the day (i.e., between the peaks) now. About a 4 minute margin with an Up Nottingham (+ or - depending on half hour), likely to knock the Nottingham on one half hour if crossing at Kettering South and everything's not quite perfect.
Running s/l from mWellingborough I've always managed to make the connection at Kettering onto a Nottingham unless there's real trouble South of Bedford.

Not before time, should have been like that from day 1

Because when they cross at Kettering it almost always delays the express, particularly because the signalling changes from 4 aspect to 3 aspect at Wellingborough so they gave to slow as the signals are far apart and once passed a single yellow the next is red

So, we keep reading of numerous door problems on these units. Are the door units the same as other operators units? If they are the same, how do those other users fare with door faults?
