Hiya I am starting in June. In my DMI interview they said potential courses after June were November but then another person who works in the job already said June is the last course for this year so god knows
How long did it take after your DMI to find out you passed?

Not sure yet mate,

Had the DMI today not sure it went well tbh I just could not focus on presenting my examples in the STAR method. The guys where lovely and made me feel welcome and took the pressure off but I had so much info in my head bursting to come out it’s like nothing could I’m probably beating myself up more than I should but I’m just not sure

I also had 3 revision based questions and then 9! Yes 9! Questions on suitability I was only expecting 2/3 so when he said 9 that caught me off guard

Fingers crossed though
Fingers crossed for you!! Can you remember any of the suitability questions? I’ve got the 6 scenarios from the MMI to fall back on, but 9???!

Hi guys, do driver courses tend to be everyone that’s applied to the same depot?

No I don't believe so as everyone does the same apprenticeship. Then once that's done you then go off to your areas to drive. Not 100 percent certain though

The 6 of us that started 2 weeks ago are Bletchley based, our first week was all in Birmingham. Last week and next week are done at NTAR in Northampton, after that we go back to Bletchley for front end turns before returning back to NTAR for both Rules part 1 and part 2. When you start your traction handling hours although most likely you should go back to your home depot but it’s not a 100% guaranteed

Hi, sorry if this has been asked already, but how long do you get for each sheet for the Group Bourdon test? I'm under the impression it is one minute per sheet but have seen elsewhere say two minutes.

For anyone at this stage, I had my DMI yesterday and November was mentioned as the next course date for Cov.

Anyone here actually drives for WMT. How do the shifts work, I have friends who work in freight and they sometimes only do 5/6 hours worth of shift but get 12 hours. Is this the same for passenger trains

Hello everyone.

I have been encouraged (as a female) to apply for the appenticeship in Wolves but I don't have much experience in safety critical roles. I do have some safeguarding experience as a former teacher and I meet the other expectations for the apprenticeship though. I just lack confidence.

This will be my first proper application. I am nervous and excited. Don't know why I'm posting this...but very thankful this forum exists.

Hello. Welcome to the forum. If you need any help please just ask or private message me as I have been through the process . I am also female and was encouraged to apply but I'm glad I did. In terms of safety critical roles I don't feel you need to have worked a role like that to be able to apply, you just need to be aware that's its a safety critical role and if and when you get to the MMI stage you can go back through your career in your head and pinpoint times where you have safeguard kids or done something with a safety mindset. That's what they are looking. I wish you all the best of luck

Hiya,

I am just leaving teaching to start at as a trainee next month. Relating a lot of teaching was fairly easy in interview particularly around data collection in relation to precision and concentrating for long periods.

Go for it.

No, got the email yesterday. If anyone can shed some light as to what is best to review on these before talking them? Although they appear to me to be situational judgement style so I’m guessing just focus on safety first with a focus on customer service?
Have you heard anything about your stage 1 OPC yet ?

Good luck to everyone applying. This will be my second application with WMR after passing all but 1 part of the OPC tests last year.

Thank you for the encouragement. I will be applying today as I feel I have nothing to lose.I have a couple of questions which I was wondering if anybody could help me with.

On the application, it asks about my nearest depot. From the drop down list, my nearest depot is actually a different one to where the job is being advertised. Shall I select Wolves as this is where I want to apply (I live about 50 mins away so it is still very much within the travelling distance). My nearest depot is Shrewsbury- but annoyingly I never see vacancies from WMRS for this depot.

Also, I have been self-employed for about 3 years now. How does screening and references work? Would they be satisfied with a reference from somebody that I teach privately? I also volunteer for a couple of places and hoping I could use references from these places too for some more credibility. Thank you.

How did you feel you got on mate? Who did your interview? Had mine Thurs was so nervous though
A bit like you for the first 3 questions, loads of info came out so that was ok. But the last 9 I felt like I fumbled through. I’ve been a bit hard on myself about it the last couple of days but I guess everyone wishes they would’ve said this or that when they replay it in their mind.

Any news for you yet? Fingers crossed for you and keep us posted.

You’ll probably think those of us awaiting DMI’s will get some sort of correspondence around summer time then in that case.

I would’ve thought so. More courses in Jan, March etc. Good luck with the interview when it comes around.

Same as me then mate, I started ok then by the time it was question 6-9 I think I started to repeat myself and on one had to pause and pretty much reset myself lol tried to explain using STAR but I just ended up babbling

Not heard anything yet mate I assume they do all the interviews before sending emails, do you know if there was many more dates after your session? I can’t remember but I’m sure there was only 4/6 dates on the invite email with maybe the last being tomorrow.

All the best mate hopefully see you there in NOV, let me know if you hear back

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who has recently been offered a role with WMT could offer some guidance on a very hypothetical question.

I am currently going through the process with WMT (trainee driver) but due to personal circumstances I am likely to be unable to accept a course date this side of the summer if successful. Do you know if WMT offer flexibility and keep personnel within the talent pool for later course dates should they be unable to commit to the first offer?

Many thanks in advance.
