hi all, preparing for stage 2 (euston) I just wondering if anyone knows the difference between the cbi and mmi/dmi ?

I did my stage 1 on Friday for Euston, I know Avanti run the tests on an enhanced standard, does anyone know what the pass marks/rates are?

Cbi /mmi are similar and done by the OPC your dmi is with managers from the toc you applied for

They don’t openly tell you it’s just met the standard.
Just like if you apply with a TOC their enhanced could be a different % to avanti.
Nobody does. It's an industry secret to protect the integrity of the testing procress.

also trying to do some research on it but can't find much, what I have found is that it involves following a pattern of stops and you have to identify when the pattern is broken ie. a stop is missed. ive seen that it is this + a fault finding test in which you have to do both simultaneously, do not quote me on that nonetheless this is just what I have found online

Basically it's an exercise where you're looking for faults. It's broken into 3 different tasks.
The first exercise is a track showing a moving train serving stops. You're task with observing when the train skips a station. There's a button under the track for you to press. Very simple.
The second task shows 2 columns, with 6 boxes each with symbols. Under the columns are 2 buttons, error and no error. All you got to do is quickly scan all the boxes and see if all the symbols in each column are identical. If they are, you click on the ‘no error’ button. If they DON’t match, you click on the ‘error’ button. Again simple.
The third task is where things get tricky. You have to do task 1 and 2 together, prioritising task 1 (the train) over the 2 columns.
This is just the context of what to expect. Personally I found a software on the forum somewhere and it helped me tremendously. Started off thinking it was unachievable to me, to being confortable doing it. May I add, some people are against paying for software to aid with practice. Personally it helped me a lot. Feel free to have a look and make your own decision.

On the dots test, how many lines do you guys reckon the average is to pass?

Nobody knows. Just concentrate on being as accurate and quick as you can.

I went for about 10/11 lines per section, seemed to work for me but just try to extremley accurate

At stage 1 somebody asked this.
The two people administering both said they can’t tell us but be as accurate/fast as possible.
Somebody in mine said he averaged 8/9 and passed.
I don't know the pass mark specifically but what I had been told is that several factors are scored which relate to accuracy, speed and consistency (which isn't usually mentioned but is clearly being assessed) i.e. the number of times you cross a 3 or 5 dot combination (major error), the number of times you miss a 4 dot combination (minor error), the number of rows you complete, the number of partial rows you complete. Then there is a check of consistency of scores across the five blocks of dots - and what is being checked here is that you have been consistent across the whole test not dropped off performance towards the end.
My understanding is that if you compared a train driver to an average person their speed could be completely average (which is fine) but the consistency needs to be higher than average and the accuracy needs to be much higher than an average person.

oh okay and was the part2 letters or symbols and how did you find it, because Im using the practice material you gave and its very good just trying to figure out a rhythm for doing both at the same time

Nice one. Keep practising man. With practice, the rhythm will come. It's symbols from what I remember. I actually enjoyed using that software.

Unfortunately for my results back and didn’t pass the enhanced or national standard, it’s my first time trying for it but does anyone know how long the wait is before I can try it again?
If it's your first time trying then it'll be six months before you can apply again since you didn't pass to a national standard. Better luck next time though, I fumbled my first attempt at a computer test because of bad form. It's disheartening but you have still have two more lives left!

Recently did the CBI, its definitely a lot more harder and intense than the MMI. The interviewer will probe and try to get a rise out of you... was in there for an hour and half.

Wow, I thought it was 10/15 minutes. Was it for Euston 26 application? And out of all the people who attended the second stage how many got to the interview stage?

Euston Talent pool. Handful of people.. all had passed assessments and had to convert to a CBI instead of MMI
