And the next time we plan a day trip we’ll be driving. It would have taken 3.25 hours to drive, leaving from our front door, with the ability to self-divert in case of any disruption, having complete flexibility as to when we returned, and not having to share space with hordes of inebriated stag and hen parties and football supporters. I’ve been a railway enthusiast since childhood and on and off a railway employee, but after six decades I’m sick and tired of the railway’s ability to let you down without warning whilst charging you a fortune to do so. I’m only going to use it in the future where I’m travelling out the day before an event, and travelling back the day after.
I would add, things can also impact the roads and you can end up in a similar (or worse situation). The A1 was shut for a number of hours earlier this week following a fatal incident (pedestrian hit by a truck) and whilst the police will try (eventually) and release trapped traffic if you are in the immediate area, it can be hours to then be released.

I agree, it seems, though I am sure a LOT goes off in the background the railway doesn't always help the passengers in some of the decisions - BUT we do have a safer railway than many years ago for both staff and passengers.

And to be fair to LNER, the staff on this service have been excellent. Relayed pretty much all the info that I could glean from this thread, RTT , etc. Distributed water and crisps. Kept a special eye out for the unaccompanied kid sitting near me.

I wonder if you'll now be picking up loads at Doncaster who have turned out for trains with later scheduled departure times?

After which I will need to do battle with LNER to get a refund of our unused return Advance singles for this evening, because I’m sure that they will claim that those trains did actually run so we could have caught them.
Well that is the intresting point in that LNER now only selling single tickets ...so if your delayed say 180 minutes and you had purchased at the same time singles for both outwards and return journeys can you claim a delay repay on both your outwards single and your return single fares as in excess of 120L on 1 leg of the journey.

If LNER won't play ball with you for a full refund on all tickets in the same situation and paid on credit card I would invoke a charge back .

Contractually LNER failed to get you to your destination on time meaning you had to abandon the trip so full refund .

Seems that nothing at all is moving past the affected train. Just the one service went through wrong line, nothing in either direction since then.

I'm sure all the industry experts will explain how difficult it is to sort this sort of thing out but to an outsider this is being incredibly badly handled, dozens of trains in both directions affected for several hours.

Today was no better. I and a friend were going to Leeds. I only booked the tickets yesterday. We made it to Peterborough on the 09:10 from KGX, sat there for an hour then the train manager said it counted as an abandoned journey and we could go by Thameslink back to London, which we did. I called LNER and was assured that I would receive a full refund for the tickets both ways.

Looks like the disruption cleared just in time for you to make the game.
Yes made it ok in the end, only 120 mins down ... That was my pub time with friends lost.

Anyway coming home on 1A33 which is 20 down and losing more time stuck behind GC 1A69 which seems to be losing time for no obvious reason

1A69 already running slightly late appears to have lost more time in the Peterborough area due to congestion in and through the station, quite frankly given the number of cancellations and disruption yesterday you were doing well to be on the move at all.
