I know 5D25 is still there, but it doesn’t mean the thunderbird didn’t go down there.. I’ll guess we will know in the next ten minutes as to where 1Z99 goes
Its now past Grantham and heading towards Newark.
At a guess, im wondering whether its going to lash up the 3 Azumas at Newark and drag all three the back way to Doncaster?!
Could take 1D26 I guess, but it’s just the 2 67s going home to Newark

It's quite possible that there's not a lot of information to filter down to train crew... I think these sort of situations tend to have long periods of nothing...

Still nothing moving north, you will have seen one head south past you, and there’s another southbound leaving Newark. Not let the two leave Peterborough yet either so that’s not a good sign that things will get moving soon

Sitting at Grantham on N98. The GC Sunderland turfed out all its pax and they are all stood on P1 abandoned.

Indeed, pretty much a guaranteed detrain at this point.
Then to decide whether to turn back or push on... equidistant, but at least they're offering a ride back now.

I was on 1E24 1700 Edinburgh to Kings X, travelling Invershin to Brockenhurst, and my brother was on 1Y20 1828 Newcastle to Kings X, travelling Invershin to Nottingham. These were some of the first trains to reach the scene.
All was well until somewhere north of Retford, where we emergency stopped. We sat for a few minutes, before slowly moving forward to Retford station. The train manager (or whatever they are called now) informed us that there was a suicidal male on the tracks about 400 metres in front of our train, and the emergency services had taken over the scene. There were also reports of him needing medical attention, and later of him being in a very hard to reach place, but I don’t want to speculate.
The train manager did an amazing job. He went through the train asking everyone if they were ok and whether they needed help, and free water and a snack were given out. The announcements couldn’t have been better. “We have over 300 people to get home, including families with children and the elderly. We understand this is a difficult situation, but we have to prioritise this vulnerable man’s safety. If he was your brother or son, your loved one, you would expect the same.” Something along these lines, and well as regular information updates. Apparently someone on the train was sick, and so the doors were opened and we were let out onto the platform.
My brother’s train (1828 from Newcastle), then arrived on the opposite platform. The doors of his train were not opened (very frustrating as he could have easily got to Nottingham via a change at Worksop), and eventually it went back north, to wait an hour outside Doncaster (meaning he missed the last train back to Nottingham). Apparently there was no visible staff other than the caterer on his train. At Doncaster he says there were busses and arrangements being made for London bound passengers, but not much for anyone else. A difficult evening for all involved by the sounds of it. In the end he got to Nottingham via a taxi from Sheffield, and I diverted to Nottingham via a change at Worksop.

I've finally finished what turned into a 16 hour shift.
Thankfully most passengers were understanding.
At about 3am I ended up ordering Uber eats direct to our train for the crew! Thankfully we were at a station.

Some truly epic delays out there today - and a number of services still making their way to final destination:
1S28 - arrived Newcastle 492 mins late
1N13 - arrived Newcastle 459 mins late
1N98 - arrived Newcastle 456 mins late
Are there any still on the move from last night? The sleeper to Inverness is several hours down, just past Newcastle and will not get to Inverness until after midday.

Fantastic joined-up thinking this morning. TPE refused point-blank to hold the 05:26 Newcastle-Edinburgh, so the passengers of the 20:30 Lumo who were travelling onward to Edinburgh got a bonus 105 minute delay waiting for the delayed 06:16 LNER which has just departed.
Estimated arrival into Edinburgh now 08:30 - a neat 12 hours after departing Kings Cross.
I'm very sanguine about the situation and the delay - but the overall railway's response this morning from those sat comfortably at their desk feels like some sort of crass joke.
