Hi all, I recently had a DMI with GTR and fingers crossed for a positive outcome! I have passed both assessment days with the OPC which included an MMI, however during the DMI they suggested I may have to do another MMI if successful. I was wondering if anybody has gone through the same process and if the follow up MMI is similar to the one conducted by the OPC?

Pure speculation on my part but the only explanations I can think of are 1) that you scored better on your other assessments than on your MMI, and in order to get you in they might have you resit after however long it is that you need to wait, or 2) that they meant another DMI...or a CBI, though AFAIK those aren't used by GTR.

Were any of the above to be the case, it would be an indication that they think you're a good fit!

Hi all, I’ve recently passed my psychometric and MMI at Leeds, and have been informed the next stage is DMI and a couple of assessments beforehand. I’ve read that they consist of

1. Group exercise based on how well you communicate on an impossible or very complicated task

2. Sitting in a sim cab for 3 mins and having to build Lego whilst answering questions on what platform or station a train has arrived in

3. Watching a 30 min POV of cab journey, tallying how many signals you have seen.

I am struggling to find any training materials for this, it appears the psychometric day had a lot more readily available material to use.

Does anyone who has experienced this day got any advice on how to prepare for this? Please PM me if you are willing to, any advice is appreciated.

One more final push for this day the fingers crossed, medical and begin my train driving career.

Not something you can really prepare for in terms of the tasks. Treat the whole day is one big interview, stand out, be friendly and listen to people in the group tasks. Don’t sit back and let other people do the task. The group task is more about how you work with others not getting the correct answer (no one ever gets it).

Lego test I found the hardest. Try not to overthink and do the best you can. I didn’t answer every question correctly but still passed.

And the 3rd task if you can’t sit through a 30min video and count signals and the colours you shouldn’t be a train driver haha.

Hoping someone can soothe my nerves on this, as its the only thing im worried about!
I have a high BMI (40) and take blood pressure medication (But all is extremely well controlled, and has been for over 3 years), will this cause any problems? I can pass all of the additional tests listed by people no problem (Touch toes, climb ladders, arms/legs move freely etc), otherwise I have no other health issues.

Any input is much appreciated

Well done for getting as far as you have!

I should imagine they will be used to nerves, white coat syndrome and all that.

I would also refer you to this:

In my recent medical last month, the only questions about history was “Have I seen a GP or visited a hospital in the last 12 months”
“Have I taken any prescribed med’s in the last 12 months”

That was basically it. If your feeling in a better place now then I wouldn’t bother sharing that experience as it was a long time ago in the grand scheme of things.

The medical isn’t as bad as people think it will be.

Hi Jack, congrats. I had my medical this morning and was slightly concerned about my BMI as I’ve read online that there is a limit - however I can confirm there is no BMI limit as long as you can move about normally then you will be fine. As for blood pressure medication, I’m less sure on a certain answer here but if you declare it and it is under control, as you say, when they take your blood pressure in the medical I’m sure you’ll be fine. Good luck for it any way!

It appears I've done the process the other way around, I've passed the selection day (DMI and assessments) but have my psychometrics and MMI still to come.

Can't seem to PM yet annoyingly.

I don't believe they do any credit checks, but they will do a basic DBS which could show up CCJs and things like that I guess.

A DBS check will not show a county court judgement. It is a criminal records check.

No, I've been to both places. Same tests, just administered by different companies.

Yeah, just a basic, that covers unspent convictions, for example, still under caution, released on parole before end of sentence, etc.

No, I'm pretty sure that is only looked at if you're working in law, police, and finance & banking

NWT2- number skills
CP8.1- audio checking
RVCE- safety communication

Hey, just a quick question. For the tea-occ, I’ve seen everyone say circle everything that has a matching symbol so for example if you see a XX then circle it. But what about searching for the areas codes or for the correct symbol that shows you the items identity.

Is it a case of all the items with matching symbols have the correct areas code and they’re all just plumbers in the directory meaning you only need to identify the ones with matching symbols because they have the correct area codes

Correct. So if you see the same matching symbols circle it such as XX or OO etc. Don't worry about the rest of the other information.

both the OPC website and railprep have tests to practise with for not much money.

I failed my MMI and not entirely sure what happened. I passed everything else! I didnt keep strictly to star but I did provide decent answers for all the questions. I was also very tired from the assessment earlier in the day. Can someone advise a good MMI star answer? I just need to understand whats needed and what I did wrong. So frustrating I have to wait a year!

It's roster by the way. But anyway, yes they are fairly default questions as they know lots of employees will ask them. Also for a trainee driver it is good to know if there are holidays planned as it is an intensive course so they could plan ahead. But many jobs ask this as a default anyway.
