810013 must’ve been quite a bad failure for it to have been pulled at Mansfield Jn and having to return instead of trying to limp the 5 minutes to Notts. If it had gotten to Notts, would they have been able to a tech out to try and fix it up where it was, or is it just better in that scenario to return to base?
It wasn't the fact it couldn't make it to Notts, it was more that it was decided en route it would be better off to return to Etches Park for repairs

Commemorative chocolate has been rolled out. On the display stand at Sheffield. Quite stylish.

At this point, I'm starting to wonder what will see the full fleet in service first, these, the 701s or the DLR's new stock...

And people can enjoy eating this chocolate while travelling to London on a Meridian!! That's of course if the service they were awaiting isn't cancelled and they decide to go to Donny instead.

Watch out for cracking round the edge of the chocolate bars ...

Does this company trading as EMR really know how to spend tax payers money wisely ? I think not!

Seems still trying to paint a picture that all is going splendardly well with introduction of 810 ...

I think Transport UK need a reality check.

Meanwhile I overheard chat saying cake slices have been withdrawn from the 1st class offer, or what’s left of the offer.
Perhaps that’s a net saving for the taxpayer?

I’m presuming they test the doors in factory, I know they test 003/4’s doors repeatedly in Dalby, been down there before when these tests were undertook. They repeatedly open and close each door, and the lot of them. I’m presuming a similar thing is undergone at Newton Aycliffe
Thanks, that's interesting but I take it that's always on straight level track.
It is only a slight exaggeration to say the every station served by EMR Inter City South of Leicester is on a curve. Curves have cants, which mean the train is tilted when standing at the station.
When the 170s were introduced and I caught them at Wellingborough on the Up they often had door close problems. On one occasion of total failure, everyone was transferred to a following HST and I found myself sitting opposite a man with an 'Adtranz' name badge reading documents headed 'Adtranz'. I thought it reasonable to politely ask what the problem was with 'Adtranz' doors and he gave the answer as being when on the tilt, and '26 door sensors'.
Who am I to say, but perhaps repeatedly opening and closing on a straight, level siding in a factory or depot may not be as testing as at Kettering on the down fast, where the 810 I was on had problems. Wellingborough has an even steeper cant, but no 810s call there - at the moment.

Seen an Aurora and a 10 car Meridian blast through Bedford. Looks like a better day all round!

Not for much longer my friend ...18th October 2026 is liberation day on the Midland Main Line ..public ownership is back !
Things won’t suddenly be resolved overnight. There are serious issues which a nationalised railway can’t magically fix. I just don’t see how public-ownership lovers with their privatisation-is-the-absolute-evil mindset can get giddy thinking all of the 810/EMR issues will go away all of a sudden.

I’m sure most will acknowledge that BR was never without its faults (anybody who argues BR was absolutely flawless is looking through rose-tinted glasses); but that’s a whole different topic!

Not to mention that each set of points passed will jarr the carriage and it only takes one sensor to say "sorry Dave, I can't do that" and the door stays shut.

Funny enough the only one I know of with any door issues today was at Leicester. In the past I've heard of passengers leaning against doors while shut giving rise to troubles when they're then opened, something that probably won;t be done in testing, but who knows what it might be with the 810s. Although in this case I believe it was, it's not always bodyside passenger doors giving trouble, there's toilet ones and crew ones too.
